Kai could tell she was nervous; then again, who wouldn't be? They were on their way to meet the two originals, the first of these creations and a witch with whom she had met before but hadn't realized that the woman was an actual seer. After he had told her about Ma Paula, she had gone quiet, telling him she had gone there for a reading on her first night in Westbane. He was waiting for her to let it sink in deeply. He knew it was too much for her, and he could feel it. He could feel the chaos going on in her head, and it just made him wish there was a way to calm this chaos and to make her see that she was completely safe around him.
"She said she saw nothing." Her voice rang out of nowhere as he took a glance her way.
He knew he could snap his fingers, and they would be at Ma Paula's, but he didn't want to worsen the situation even more. He had been shocked that she was willing to go with him to stop Sama'el from ever coming back by binding him to her.
"When she read your palms?" Kai asked her.
She nodded, swallowing.
"She said that my mind was uniquely protected... I didn't understand what it meant then, but now I think I do. or I don't... Does it mean I have some kind of superpower?" she asked, sounding confused.
He shrugged. "That depends. Have you ever done anything out of the ordinary?"
"Asides from wreaking havoc wherever I go without even noticing it." She let out, then turned to face him. "Do you think that's it? That I can ruin things? The darker version of Wreck-It Ralph?"
What? He thought.
"What's Wreck-It Ralph?" he asked, brows furrowed in confusion.
Her eyes widened. "You haven't seen Wreck-It Ralph?"
"I haven't seen a lot of things... I don't know many things, and I've existed for decades." He told her, feeling a bit embarrassed.
He had the chance to explore things people of this time and age did. But he had been on the other end of the receiving line, not having time for himself or social life... he was always taxed with significant responsibilities that made it difficult for him to live his life for himself, but he had never once complained.
He could feel her eyes on him but didn't say a word.
"You're difficult to figure out." She said.
He furrowed his brows. "How?"
"First, you act super scary and bossy, and the next minute, you're acting like a 6-year-old deprived of having ice cream." She told him, still staring.
"I have a lot of sides to me," He said, not knowing what else to say.
She let out a sigh. "I'm beginning to think the main problem between us is that I don't even know the real you."
He glanced at her once more before looking back at the road without saying anything. She was right to feel that way because he knew he couldn't show her that side of him. It was dark and nothing like the person seated beside her.
He had long since planned never to show her that side of him, and he wasn't about to return on it.

He pulled over at the Bane Cave.
Elfrida dragged in a breath. "This isn't going to take long, right? I mean... it's just abracadabra, and that's it, right?"
He almost let out a chuckle before his brain whispered that she was nervous and needed all the assurance she could get.
He reached for her hand, encasing it in his palm, as he passed on some positivity. "Everything will be fine. We're doing this to get the angels and some demons off your back. If this is done, they will want you alive to keep Sama'el at bay."
