Chapter Forty

~

"It just sucks Maya," I sigh and flip through a couple more dresses, "he was it. He was my boy. And he chose her."

I had an arm full of dresses. Maya wanted to come home and hang with me for the day to help me try on some dresses for the Snowball. I had a navy blue, a emerald green, a light blue and a classic red picked out so far. Maya had a million more for me to try on.

"Wait so the same guy that took you home from that one party when you were drugged, took you to the ocean, made christmas cookies with you and let you stay at his house on Friday, is getting with another girl?" She says, sounding just as confused as me.

All the memories she brings up feel like a stab to the heart.
"Yeah. Same dude."

I could hear Maya scoff from behind me. "Douche bag."

I shake my head and turn around to face her. She had even more dressed in her hands.
"But not really. Louis' so sweet. And so understanding. He's literally a perfect human and he wouldn't wanna ever hurt me."

Maya looks at the dresses in her arms, and them back up at me with furrowed brows.
"But he did? He did hurt you."

I shrug and turn back around, continuing to flip through dresses.
"I know. But maybe he didn't know he was. Maybe I should've told him how I felt."

Maya laughs from behind me.
"Yeah right. Y/n this isn't your fault. If Louis really is a good guy then he'll figure this out. He'll realize that this Clara girl is not the shit."

I can't help my smile. A small laugh escapes my lips and I turn to face her again.
"I think we have enough dresses."

She shakes her head and gestures to all the racks of fancy and glittery clothing.
"We've only been through five rows! C'mon at least do two more with me."

Her eyes were pleading into mine. Unlike me, Maya's a shopper. She loves it. Especially clothes shopping. So don't ask me how I got wrapped into this little shopping spree, because it's all just Maya begging.

"Okay fine. Two more rows and then we try these on," I give in and turn back around, flipping through more clothes.

I ended up grabbing one more dress. A deep lavender one. It was tight fitted, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyways.

"How many items?" The lady standing in front of the fitting rooms asks. She had black hair and a light-darkish skin color. She was really slim. Super pretty. I look down at my arms.

"Uh five..." I turned back to look at Maya's arms, "six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve- you know what let's just assume I have like 30."

The lady gives me a surprised look and smacks on her peppermint gum which I could smell from in front of her.

"I'm afraid we can only allow ten items at a time. Please put the rest back," she sighs at me carelessly. I turn back to look at Maya with an "I told you so" kind of look.

She rolls her eyes playfully at me, then looks to the woman.
"Well how about we make a couple trips. Here, y/n."

She grabs five more dresses from her hands and gives them to me. I felt embarrassment flush through me as the lady watched us. We had basically every dress in the store.
