Chapter 7 (Declan POV)
I feel something hard and cold beneath me. The side of my face feels soar from it resting on the surface for so long. When my eyes finally peel open, I see a concrete floor and a stone brick wall. As I regain my strength, I lift myself from the ground and manage to crawl up to the metal bars in the front of the room I'm in. It's no room though; it's a cell.
Across the walkway I see another cell with Ruby sitting down with her back against the wall. She faces me and gives me a sad, empathetic look. The usual strength that is secured in her eyes is no longer as strong. She still looks gorgeous, but defeated.
"You're awake," she says in a quiet tone. "It's been a whole week already."
I furrow my eyebrows in confusion as all of the memories hit me at once. Where is everyone else? Are they still alive? Why did I revive myself so slowly? A neck snap shouldn't take a week to heal.
"They kept injecting you with something to keep you knocked out," she says. "Its something to do with your telekinesis gift."
If they kept me unconscious, then they definitely are doing the same thing to my father, if he is still alive. He's so much better at using his gift than I am. If I were really good at it, then I could probably play with and unlock the lock to the handcuffs that are bounding my wrists together. The fact that they thought of me escaping that way sends the message that these people know what they are doing.
"I haven't seen anyone else since I woke up," Ruby says sadly. "The only person that I see is the guard who delivers food and injects the serum into you."
My stomach growls, making me realize how starving I am. I hold my stomach in pain. It's emptiness is something that I am not used to. I've never been this famished before. However, my hunger is the least of my worries right now.
I look over to Ruby and see that her hair is all matted and oily. She doesn't look her best, but I still think that she's beautiful. I wish we could at least be locked in the same cell. They probably put us in separate ones to taunt us.
Both of us jump when we hear the echo of a door being opened and closed. I stick my face through the metal bars and look towards the direction of the sound.
A demon guard drags a girl with long, black hair down the hall and towards us. She struggles, but looks too weak to escape. The guard opens Ruby's cell and throws the girl into it. She falls on her face when she lands from the shove and let's out an irritated groan. The guard closes and locks the cell again before exiting the prison room without a word.
The girl moves so that she is standing, but her hands are cuffed behind her back just like mine and Ruby's. She flicks her head to the left, removing the hair from her face. She looks well built with strong arms and legs. Her blue eyes dart from Ruby, then over to me. They widen when she examines me from head to toe.
Suddenly I gasp, realizing that I have seen her somewhere before. Her eyes and hair give her away, along with her high cheekbones. She looks about my age.
She was the girl who I saw being dragged out of the prison when I was ten. She's the same girl who hatefully shouted how she loathes my father.
"I hate you, Patrick! I want my mom back!" The sound of her high pitched yelling was silenced when she was thrown into a car by the guards and driven away.
This girl has been a mystery to me for the past six years and now I'm finally seeing her again.
"I'm Ruby," Ruby says in an awkward manner.
"So... Who are you and why are you here?" I ask. It comes off more rudely than I intend.
She sighs and glares at me with annoyance. Her jaw tenses and she looks like wants to fight me. "My name is Olivia. I don't know exactly why I'm here, but I have some ideas."
