40 - Same Old Friends

Y/N watched as everyone tasted her soup. She was nervous to see their reaction and if her soup was tasty or not.

Jay raised his head, his eyes slightly wide open. "It tastes so good." He said before he got back to eating, nodding his head at how delicious it was.

"This really tastes great." They said and Y/N couldn't help but sigh in relief.

"I'm glad you like it. Areum had taught me how to make it." 

Sunghoon stopped eating, his eyes staring blankly at his food before he cleared his throat and put down his spoon. Everyone stared at them and Y/N regretted saying her name in front of him.

He clearly missed her a lot. 

"Should I call her to come here?" She asked, making Sunghoon stare at her in hesitance. "You might want to talk things out. After all, it wasn't your fault." She said and Sunghoon slowly nodded his head, sighing heavily afterward.

"I just hope she won't mind seeing me again." 

"She hasn't moved on yet, just so you know." A small smile was plastered on Y/N's face as she grabbed her phone and dialed her friend's phone number.

"Hello?" Everyone could hear Areum's voice since Y/N was putting her on speaker. 

"Hi, Areum. Are you back from Seoul?" She asked, glancing over at Sunghoon whose eyes were glistening. Upon hearing her voice, his heart beat faster and memories flooded right in front of him.

"Yeah, I'm about to go back home. What about you? How are you and Hana?" Areum asked, making Y/N look at her daughter who was busy drawing and coloring.

"Everything is fine. I actually wanted to ask you about something." Looking at Sunghoon who was looked quite nervous, she smiled. 

"I'll send you an address, can you come and meet me?" 

"Oh? Yeah, sure." Areum said although she was a little confused. However, when Y/N sent her the address, she made her way to Jay's place.

As they waited for her to come, everyone sat there and talked about random things when Hana walked to Jay, holding a paper in her little hands. Standing in front of him, she turned it and showed him the drawing she made.

Jay stared at it for a while, trying to hold back the sad smile to find its way on his lips. Faking a smile, he looked at her with surprised eyes. "Oh, that's your mommy, Y/N..." He said as he pointed at the paper. 

A woman and a little girl were holding hands along with another man and Jay knew exactly who he was. "That's you, and that's..." 

Y/N stared at him when he stopped talking, looking at the last person in the drawing. Her eyes glistened a little knowing that it would've hurt Jay, a lot.

"That's Junseok..." He smiled and before he could look back at Y/N, Hana shook her head and pointed at the man on the paper.

"It's you!" She said, smiling from ear to ear. 

Jay widened his eyes at what the little girl said while Y/N stared at her daughter in disbelief. Hana put the paper on the table and turned to Jay, holding his hands in his little ones and shaking them happily.

Everyone stared at Hana's drawing in confusion before they looked back at her and the man she was smiling so widely at. 

If they knew any less, they would have believed that Jay was her father.

Staring at them as her eyes were about to tear up, Y/N's heart broke at the sight of them together. It seemed that Hana liked Jay a lot and he did the same. They had this incredible bond and Y/N started regretting the decisions she made.

Nothing kept Hana from her father and Jay from his daughter but her. And that made Y/N wonder if it was time to tell him the truth. 

However, she was afraid. Because if she did so, she'd shatter everything once again. And the last thing she wanted was to hurt Jay, once more.

She was swimming in her thoughts when the bell rang, indicating that Areum had finally arrived. Y/N then excused herself and rushed to the door, opening it only to reveal a confused Areum.

"Oh?" She tilted her head and furrowed her eyebrows when Y/N smiled and pulled her inside. As soon as they walked in, and as soon as Areum turned to look at who was there, her heart skipped a beat, and her eyes slightly widened in shock. 

"What are you..." She muttered and stared at all of them before her eyes landed on the person that still managed to make her heart beat so fast. 

Sunghoon stared at her and his heart ached; he missed her a lot. 

"Areum!" Before they could say anything, Hana rushed to Areum and hugged her tightly as the latter softly stroked her hair.

"Oh... hi, Hana." She smiled before she looked up at Sunghoon and Jay. 

Turning back to Y/N, Areum gave her a questioning look before Y/N made her sit down next to them. Awkwardly fidgeting with her fingers, she slightly bowed at them and that made them feel bad.

"Hello." She said and turned to Y/N who was looking at her with warm eyes. "What's happening here?" She whispered.

"There's a lot of things to explain," Y/N said and slightly chuckled. 

Time passed as everyone explained what happened and apologized to Areum, but she kept staring at them without saying anything. She looked down for a while and sighed heavily.

Just then, Areum's eyes started brimming with tears before she broke down into crying. Sunghoon's eyes widened and all of them looked at her in surprise.

"Why did you do that...?" She said as her sobs got louder before she looked at Sunghoon. "I thought you really played with my feelings and didn't like me... I hated you!" She said and kept on crying while Sunghoon placed his hand on her back and tried to calm her down.

Y/N didn't realize she was crying until a tear rolled down her cheek. Areum always looked strong and seeing her so vulnerable like that made Y/N feel so sad. However, a smile crept on her lips when Areum hugged Sunghoon tightly and cried in his chest.

Everyone smiled as Sunghoon hugged her back and comforted her before Hana rushed to their side and hugged them too. 

Soon they were all laughing and smiling at each other that they forgot anything that happened before. Y/N felt nostalgic as she stared at Jay and her friends. 

The scene made her feel as if they were back to being teenagers again.

Yet with some painful memories and hidden lies.
