Chapter 13: Made New Friends

    After a week in staying in the underground room, Nico was still bored. Even if he had a laptop, he didn't have much to do. Unless George decided to give Nico something to work with like his latest inventions.

    "Sir George, do you have a moment?" Asked Nico

    "Oh, yeah sure. What do you need?"

    "Can I go somewhere? I'm bored" Nico said

George thought about it for a moment, he then nodded.

    "Yes you can. There's a school not far from here, just take a straight walk and then you can see two ways, up and left. Go left and there is a school straight ahead. If you don't wanna visit the school, there's a pet shop just near the school" answered George as he later added "Or you could visit both" as he formed a small smile.

    "I'll visit both, thanks sir George"

    Nico then got up from his cat bed and went out. He followed the directions George told him. Nico's memory is a bit better than an average cat so he managed to get there in just three minutes.

    "Woah, it's a pretty big school"

    "Very exquisite"

    Nico then jumped on top of one of the walls, which wasn't that high. He then looked down to see not much children. After a bit of walking, the school bell rang which made a few cats around the area, flinch.

    Nico sat on one of the benches. As a bunch of kids were giggling and yelling. Just having fun. A group of kids were going near a tree which Nico noticed, had 2 squirrels on the branch. The kids then started throwing small stones and sticks at them.

    "For goodness sake, can these kids stop" said one of the squirrels.

    "Make 'em stop, Chuck" said the other.

    Nico didn't mind kids, before he was turned into a talking cat. He wasn't really disturbed by kids. They would try and approach Nico but he would just run away when they're anywhere near him.

    Nico got up from the bench and walked to the kids.

    "Excuse me young man, could you stop throwing at the squirrels please?"

    "No way!"

    They continued throwing for a few seconds until one of them suddenly stopped and turned to Nico.

    "D-did.. that cat just t-talk..?"

    "Yes, you are correct" Nico formed a smile

    The kids ran away, crying and yelling. But left a girl behind, she had blonde hair, blue eyes, and looked dazzling.

    "Thank you.. I tried to stop them but they wouldn't listen" she smiled. Oh her smile was so cute

    "My name is Mika, Mika Smith. Pleasure to meet you"

    "You have a nice etiquette, young Mika"

    "My name is Nico, pleasure to meet you too"

The two squirrels then came down the tree.

    "Thanks for saving us from those jerks"

    "Yeah, they wouldn't stop bothering us for the past few weeks"

    "The name's William, that's chuck"

    "Nico, I'm sure you've heard now"

Mika bent down to Nico

    "Um, Nico? What are they saying?"

    "Oh, I can understand communicate to humans and still communicate to animals"

    "Oh, I get it"

    "Their names are Chuck and William" The suddenly school bell rang.

    "Oh, free time is over. I guess I'll see you later"  she waved to Nico, William, and Chuck as she ran back to the classroom.

    "Say, wanna go visit the pet shop just across the street?"

   The squirrels looked at each other and just nodded. As they reached the pet shop, the room had a window on the roof which meant light was natural, but the ceiling had a few lights here and there. They couldn't really get in and breaking the glass was an extremely bad idea. So they just decided to go back home. Chuck and William went back to their tree as Nico went to visit the school again.

    When Nico reached the school, parents and kids were already going home. He suddenly spotted Mika in one of the sitting areas.

    "Hello Mika. What brings you here? I thought you've already gone home with your mom or dad?"

     Mika looked at him with a sad expression. Nico noticed she had a bruise on her wrist.

    "What's that on your wrist?"

    "Remember the kids from earlier? They saw me talking to you, and thought it was my plan to interrupt them. So they grasped my hand. I only felt like crying"

    "As for now, I am afraid of going home. My mom said I should try and walk home since I'm growing up.." she later added.

Nico jumped onto her lap.

    "Eh? What are you-"

    "I'll walk you home"

    "Eh? Oh, you don't need to-"

    "I insist"

    Mika just sighed and smiled. Nico lead her outside the school gate. After a few seconds of walking, her stomach growled. She found a grocery store nearby and bought a fiber bar.

    They walked in silence, it was getting a bit awkward. Until Nico broke the silence

    "So, how was school..?" Nico asked

    "It was great I guess" Nico knowing it wasn't since her so-called friends threatened her.

    They reached her house and oh wow, they just live a few houses away.

    "What a coincidence, we just live next to each other"

    "Huh? Oh, where's your house?"

    "It's the grey one"

    "Oh.."

    "But anyways, thanks Nico"

    "No problem" She gave a thumbs up and went inside her house.

    "So Nico, how was your adventure?" George chuckled.

    "It was great, Sir George. I met two squirrels and a bunch of animals in the pet shop"

    "I also met this girl, her name's Mika Smith" George turned his head to Nico.

    "Mika Smith?"

    "Yes, do you know her?"

    "..."

    "Oh nothing, that name is just familiar to me"

    "Oh okay.." Nico just laid on his cat bed. He was glad he made new friends.
