The last hour had been absolutely horrible.
Thankfully, they had been able to reach some headquarters and eliminate all the titans that had snuck in the basement. Thanks to Armin's strategy, [Y/N] hadn't had to use her nen at all, which was good. With this many soldiers around, it was best to keep a low profile.
There was something about the whole scene, something morbid in the air that made the situation much, much worse than anything she had seen before. Perhaps it was the ancient setting, perhaps it was the people's utter despair as they were basically powerless against giants, but never in her life had the nen user ever felt something so heavy. It was unsettling; she, herself, was completely safe; but the weight of all the unnecessary death was getting to her.
Eren's unnecessary death was getting to her.
The screams, the grief, the fear seemed so much heavier in this world. It was all so raw, so vivid. Compared to this, the world where she came from had a sugarcoating filter on it.
Either that, or shifting from one universe to another really messes with one's perception.
"We're all set for the gaz," said Armin. "We must get back out and fight..."
"Yeah, we must," [Y/N] agreed. "A shame. I feel like I've seen enough ugly giants for a lifetime."
"Don't worry princess," said a blond, rather broad teenager. "You're a scout right? You'll be fine.
Raising an eyebrow, she turned around. "And who are you?"
"Name's Reiner," the teenager grinned, saluting. "Nice to meet ya."
"Cut it out Reiner," said a shorter blonde girl, hitting her comrade on the back. "Let's just get out of here. No one has time for your shit."
[Y/N] felt a rush of strange aura yet again, only this time it was more tame. Unfortunately, she couldn't just stop to analyze it without raising suspicion and curiosity. The clock was ticking, and with every second another citizen was likely getting eaten or crushed. They all needed to get back into action, the faster the better.
Without further ado, everyone quickly finished dusting themselves off before getting up and rushing outside.
"Everyone wait! Look at this!"
Before they could all take off on 3dm gear, the cadets turned their attention on what was going on at ground level.
What they saw left most of them speechless.
"Are those... two titans fighting each other?" asked Jean, his voice barely audible.
"Looks like it..." replied Armin. "How is that even possible?"
"I don't know. Seems like we've got an odd one. What do we do about it?" asked Reiner.
"The one that's attacking the other is helping. As long as it doesn't start attacking humans, we'd be better off letting it do its thing." reasoned [Y/N].
She could see, or rather feel, that it wasn't like the other ones. The titans she had seen barely had any aura, as if they were nothing but dead meat with a really faint, background presence. This one, however, had a lively, determined, emerald green aura. Emerald green, just like-
"Eren!" exclaimed Mikasa, flying down to the ground with her gear as the titan battle came to an end.
"Mikasa! Wait!" yelled Armin, right before following her.
