"KAMSAHAMNIDA!" HANNA HOLLERED as another customer left. I stretched my arms and groaned. This felt worse than the intense diet I had to take once—having no energy didn't even compare to the feeling of thousands of dumbbells piled on my shoulders.
"How's the pace going?" I asked, tilting my head in the directions of the three groups left. So close, and I'd be free from this place. And I definitely did not have any thoughts of coming back.
"Slow," she muttered, just as one of them took another sip of their soju and chattered away. Again. They barely touched their food, and instead gossiped the whole time.
"This is why cafe's exist," I let out an exasperated sigh—loud enough to reach a certain table a few feet away from me. From the laborious work, my stomach gurgled in protest. Coming out from the kitchen, probably done with the dishes, Andrew let out a soft laugh.
"Don't go attacking them now," Hanna joked.
"Ugh," I sprawled my upper body on the counter like a frog. Who cared about posture at this point? I was starving. All we had for lunch was bread, and then the restaurant became busy again. Now I realized why Lina's mother always looked dead tired.
"Oh, Andrew," Hanna started, "Are you planning on coming next week?"
Oblivious to the tips of her ears blushing, he shrugged. "I don't know. I might if Lina is, or if Imo needs me."
Um, no. And he better not accept my mother's offer either, because then I'd get roped into coming next week, too. My eyebrows creased, and Andrew pushed my forehead back with his index finger. Chuckling, he said, "You've lost your stamina. Usually, you'd last a lot longer."
Maybe because he was tired, or because exhaustion was messing with my mind, but his tone felt...forced. I didn't know how to explain it, but something felt off.
"Something wrong?" He leaned up and parted his bangs to the sides, smiling at me. Forcing himself to. For some reason, I could feel him trying to act natural, and it sent shivers up my spine.
"No," I managed to get out.
"Oh, yeah," he snapped his fingers. "Imo wanted to know if you wanted to go home or help out a bit more. Hanna, she says you can leave too if you want, since we're already done with half the cleaning."
"Sweet!" She pumped her fist in the air. "I'll always take an early dinner—wait, what about you? Are you guys going to stay?"
Help? More than I already had?
"Uh, I don't know. I might help out—"
"Home," I stated, as if it was obvious. "You can stay, though," I told Andrew, patting his arm. "I'll take your car, and you can drive home with Li—my—parents."
He shook his head. "It's fine, I'll drive you home. Let me talk to them for a second." When he disappeared, Hanna rested her head on the palm of her hand, which she propped up on the counter.
