"In the entire 3 years that she was gone, mom hadn't called me, texted, even sent a postcard or something. Not once. When she got back, it felt like she was trying to glue our relationship back together, and for while there it worked. But now, it feels like everything is about to go back to the way it was before," I sighed, then started chugging down the cup of tea, which was still piping hot.
"Hey, slow down," Sasuke said, pulling the cup away from me, "doesn't that burn?"
"It's was good though!" I gave him a big thumbs up, smiling. "So, what happened with your family?"
"Uh- Long story short, they were sacrificial pawns for the sake of peace."
"I- uhhh...okay," I laughed nervously.
Gahh dayuum. Talk about a massacre. Why didn't his bitch ass sacrifice himself for peace.
"Sakura," Sasuke says looking up at me.
"Yes?" I respond almost immediately, hoping I didn't say that shit out loud.
"Why did you smile?"
Our eyes meet.
Oh. He must mean when talking about my family. Honestly, I get that dumb positivity from Naruto. I am glad that his happiness stuck with me though.
"It's... because I think I might've fallen in love with you again," I said, inching my face closer to Sasuke's, almost completely closing the gap between us.
"..."
"Pfffft! I quit, I quit! As if!" I laughed, backing up from him. "Sasuke, you know I was just about to kiss you right? You didn't move an inch...don't tell me-"
"No," he sighed.
Okay my dude it was a joke. But like I meannn.. if you're down then I'm down....
Deep down inside I know he wanted that kissed. I mean come on, this is Sasuke Uchiha we're talking about, the Legendary Rejection Master. I just know he's never kissed a girl before."Well, I should head home," I started, "it's getting kinda late, plus I'm fully awake now, so I should be fine. Besides, I'm pretty sure you don't want to be annoyed all night."
"No, it's fine-"
"Yeah I know. What the hell did I look like going home alone this late I night?" I laughed, "honestly, I just wanted to see what you were gonna say."
Chapter XVIII - Impossible To Read
Sasuke's POV...She's even more complicated to figure out than before. I'm usually able to read people easily, but with her, I'm completely at a loss. Everything she's does is out of my expectations. But... I don't understand what's so different about her.
I want to figure her out. Now much more than before. But to do that, I need to stop shutting her out so much. Not that it was working before, but still.
"What do you wanna eat?" I asked, already knowing fully well I was going to make rice balls.
"I'm not eating rice balls," Sakura replied, glaring at me, "what do you have? I'll cook us something."
"Other than rice, I have simple breakfast ingredients, but that's about it. I didn't see much point in buying all those other things, I'm not a chef."
"Urghhhh," she sighed, facepalming. "Get up, we're going grocery shopping."
"Why? I already told you that I-"
"I. Will. Cook. For. You." She interrupted, "c'mon, let's go."
"..."
...
After a while of bickering, Sakura finally finished cooking. We sat down across from each other and talked about random things as we ate our food. "How is it?" She asked.
"...Not bad," I replied, going in for more.
"Eh? Not bad? That's all I get?" She pouted.
"Fine. It tastes immaculate. That good enough for you?" I smiled.
".....I suppose," she took another bite.
This.. feels weird. It's a feeling I've felt before; something I haven't felt in a long time. It may be because I hadn't had a home-cooked meal in a while, or because I hadn't sat down and ate an actual dinner with anybody in a while. Or, I could simply be that we're actually having a back and forth conversation while eating dinner, enjoying ourselves, joking around.
In a way, it reminds me of the time I spent with my mother.
*The Next Day*
Sakura and I arrived on school grounds together, gaining the gazes of everyone around us. I looked down at Sakura, noticing that she seemed anxious. She did say she didn't like too much attention. I can only imagine when Karin will show up.
"Sasuke," someone said tapping my shoulder. It sounds like the Hyuga.
"Oh, hey Neji," Sakura waved at him.
"Hey," he responded, then got cut of by the sound of girls squealing. They surrounded us.
"Sasuke! Neji! The two hottest guys in school in the same spot!" One of them shouted. "Eeeeeeeee!"
The Hyuga sighed. "You should've expected this," I said bluntly, "what is it?"
"I need to borrow Sakura for a second, if that's alright with you?"
?
"Why're you asking for my permission? I don't own her," I replied.
"The two of us aren't together," Sakura held her finger up to the Hyuga, "if that's what you're implying, Neji."
"Oh, my mistake. Sakura, would you mind coming with me for a second? And Sasuke, could you please control your fan girls?"
"There your's too," I sighed.
"Yeah, sure," Sakura smiled, waving at me.
