Chapter 4 [United Once Again]

[Location: The Emperor's Palace]

As the crowds were eating and drinking, the nobles were invited to the ball room to meet the Emperor and of course, dancing with others. Then Alucard greeted his old friend and ask him about the current situation of the war.

Alucard: Hey broth- Umm I mean, Your Highness?

Granger: "Chuckles" No need for formalities Alucard. You are my old friend. Just call my name.

Alucard: If you say so, Granger. By the way, are you alright? Did you eat well?

Granger: Of course I'm alright. I eat well to. But as a Marshal I got a few wounds while leading troops to the front. Nothing serious so far. What I'm afraid now is about the Russian invasion.

Alucard: What's with the invasion?

Granger: I tried to convince my father that attacking while the winter is coming is not a good idea. Troops will be lost in the thick snow or worst, freeze to death. But he won't listen.

Alucard: I don't know about your gunpowder warfare but I also have a bad feeling.

Granger: Good think you understand me.

Suddenly the other members of the former Chevaliers including the princess joins the two.

Tigreal: Looks like my boy has grown up! How are you Granger?

Granger: I'm fine. How about you all?

Silvanna: We're all fine, Granger. Anyways your childhood friend is here. You remember her?

Granger: You mean Guinevere?

Silvanna: Yes, she was looking for you.

Granger: Don't tell her anything, I'll meet her myself. The reason why I don't want you guys to tell her about this is because I don't want her to worry about me all the time. The last time I'm missing just for a moment while we are still a kid, she was worried about me like if I'm already dead.

Silvanna: Ohh so that's the reason. I see....

Granger: Where is she?

Silvanna: She's at the main hall with her family.

Granger: I want to meet her, gotta go. See you guys later.

Fanny: Take care!!

Granger: I will.

Then Granger rushes to the main hall to see Guinevere in front of him.

Granger: Wow, she grown up to a lady. Guin!

Guinevere turned to the the sound and saw  a guy with black and white hair shouting her name.

Guinevere's mind: (Am I dreaming? Is that Granger? Wow, he grown up to a gentleman. But why is he wearing a French uniform? Is he a special guest? No way, I saw him seat at the royal family chair. A guest cannot just seat like that right? Or can they?)

Then Granger head towards Guinevere and her family.

Leodegrance: Ohh! What a surprise! Your Highness! What bring's you here?

Granger: I'm here to see my childhood friend.

Guinevere: Granger! Where have you been!? I have been looking for like forever!

Then she hugged Granger as tight as she can without hesitation.

Granger: Ok you can let me go now, I also miss you.

Leodegrance: Guinevere Baroque! You can't just hug a royal family like that! What did I told you about manners! I'm so sorry for my daughter attitude, Your Highness.

Granger: It's fine, no need to blame your daughter.

Then she had a shy feeling and about to cry in the same time because of being blamed in huge crowd. Everyone was looking at them.

Granger: It's okay Guin, no need to cry. How about we went outside to calm yourself down? Let's go.

Guinevere: Sobbing.... Okay~

Then the two headed outside of the palace towards the garden.

Lancelot: I think you mad her pretty bad father, at least apologize to her later.

Leodegrance: I mad her for her own good, not to make her shy in front of the crowd. I need to rest, I have an headache.

Then the rest of the Baroque family went to their special room escorted by Old Guards. Meanwhile the Emperor headed towards the main hall and asked what happened. Suddenly Marshal Lannes come to tell the Emperor something impossible.

Lannes: Napoleon, may I speak? (According to history, Marshal Lannes is so close to Napoleon until he can just call his name instead of formalities.)

Napoleon: What happened here, Lannes? I just heard a loud shout.

Lannes: Long story Napoleon, It was because of a lady hugged your son and suddenly the lady's father blamed her for hugging the royal family suddenly. But I see something more interesting, I never seen Granger smile before, not even once even if it's good news in war or something else. But after he meet this lady he suddenly smile.

Napoleon: That's weird, my older son never smile before. Unless....

Lannes: They have a relationship?

Napoleon: Maybe, I'll ask him later and tell the lady I want to meet her too.

Lannes: Understand, Napoleon.

[Location: The Palace's Garden]

Granger: You feeling better now?

Guinevere: Yes, thank you.

Granger: Before I tell you all about how I ended up here, let me play the violin for you. It was a piece that I want to play for you long time ago but never have a chance. Wait here, I will take my violin inside.

After a few minutes, Granger came back to Guinevere with his violin. Then he starts playing the piece.

[For those who don't know this is a piece composed by Niccolo Paganini and this video is from a film I don't know the film name. Just search for Caprice No. 24 in YT and you will find it, I'm also a fan of classical music. This is what Granger play.]

After Granger done playing it, Guinevere is just speechless and have a romantic feeling in the same time.

Guinevere: Wow, I didn't knew you can play a violin like that! How long it takes for you to master this piece?

Granger: From the time we were still kids until now.

Guinevere: Can you teach me please???

Granger: Why not? But I'm afraid I need to leave again after a few days, the war is still on. But I promise to be back and teach you.

Guinevere: You promise?

Granger: Yes, I promise.

Guinevere: Sigh.. Why do people always want to make war? Isn't it better to just make peace?

Granger: We make war to make peace, Guinevere. But sometimes people are just hungry for lands. If we didn't make war, we will suffer from others, but if we make war with others, will it be different? Other people will suffer because of us. We didn't ask for this, but this is what we need to do for the sake of the country.

Guinevere: I-I guess I understand, b-but what if something happen's to you during the war?

Granger: Then it's my fate, we can't change fate. Besides, soldiers were made to die for his country, not to run like a coward.
