Ch Four

Kenzie sat in the waiting room. She was anxious and waiting on news. She was shocked. She couldn't believe Iain would do that. They were having a baby. And he had tried to take his life. Kenzie knew he could still die as they worked on him in Resus.

Kenzie had no idea how he was feeling. She knew he had been distant and off lately. She hated how she didn't see it in him. She just wanted him to be okay. She didn't want to have this baby alone. The thought of losing him scared her.

Kenzie sighed as she stood pacing. She sighed as she sat down. She looked to see Charlie as he walked over to her. "Is there any news?" She asked.

Charlie sat down with her and smiled. "We have to take him for surgery. The pills he took, they've had some effect on his heart. But I promise you we're going to do all that we can. He's one of us. And we're going to help him. We're also here for you. I'll keep you updated. I promise," Charlie said as Kenzie looked to him and smiled.

She knew she was terrified of losing Iain.

Kenzie looked to see Ella who walked over to her. She handed her a cup of coffee. "It's decaf. For the baby. But you need it. You've been sitting there for hours. I sent Cal to get you some food," Ella said.

"I'm not hungry," Kenzie said as she rubbed her eyes.

Ella rolled her eyes as she looked at her. "I don't care. Look, you're my sister. And you need to eat. Not for you. For the baby. I know you're in shock and worried about Iain. But you need to keep your strength up for baby." She told her.

Kenzie sighed. "Has anyone told you you're like mum?" She said as she took a sip of her coffee. She sighed. She knew how Ella was thinking about her and the baby.

She knew it was something she should have been doing. But she couldn't think straight. She was thankful Ella was there. Ella smiled. "All the time. Look, Iain is a fighter. He will be okay. And we will get through this. I promise. I called mum and she's on her way. We're here for you. Okay?" Ella said.

Kenzie looked to her with tears in her eyes. "I just can't lose him," she sobbed.

Ella pulled her into a hug and smiled. "I know. It'll be okay."

Kenzie stood in the corridor. She saw her mum and smiled. "It's okay darling. I'm here," Helen said as he hugged her and smiled.

Kenzie sobbed into her. "I don't know if I'm strong enough for this," she said.

Helen looked to her. She smiled as she wiped the tears from her eyes. "I know. But you are. It's going to be okay. I promise you," Helen said as she held Kenzie close to her.

Kenzie knew she was struggling to keep it all together. She had no idea how her life was going to get a lot more complicated. And it wasn't anything to do with Iain.

But with her mother's past.
