In This Together *Casualty*

Ch One

Kenzie woke in bed. She was alone. Her boyfriend wasn't there. Again. She sighed and climbed out of bed.

She grabbed the shirt discarded at the bottom of the bed. Kenzie walked downstairs and saw Iain sitting on the sofa. "Babe, come back to bed. You're not functioning on no sleep," she told him.

"I'm fine."

Kenzie sighed. "Please. You need to sleep. You've not slept since the crash and I'm worried about you," she told him.

Iain looked up at her and smiled. "I can't sleep babe. Don't worry about me."

Kenzie went into work and sighed. Iain left without her and she was feeling sad about it. She felt like he was pushing her away.

Kenzie looked up as Charlie walked over to her. "Is everything okay?" He asked.

"He's pushing me away and I don't know how much more I can take. I really don't. It's hurting me," she mumbled.

Charlie sighed. "Give him some time. He's lost his best friend. He tried to save her and failed."

"I get that. I really do. But I'm having his baby and I need him," Kenzie mumbled.

Iain sat in the back of the ambulance and sighed. Ruby was sitting with him. Kenzie walked over. "Can I have a few minutes? It won't take long."

Ruby smiled and nodded. She walked off leaving Iain and Kenzie alone. Kenzie took Ruby's space and smiled. She took out the latest scan of their baby girl. "You see her? She's a reason to keep going. She needs us more than anything. We're going to be her mummy and daddy. She is the little girl that we made. We both need you Iain."

Iain looked at the scan and felt a tear. He didn't want to let his baby girl down. But he felt like he would. He couldn't even keep Sam alive.

Kenzie sighed. "No matter what happens, you'll always have me and our baby girl."

Iain saw Kenzie sitting in their baby girls nursery and smiled. He sat with her. "We could name her Mia?" He asked.

Kenzie turned and looked at him. She smiled. "I like that. Mia-Lea."

Iain took her hand. "I promise. I'm going to do whatever I can to keep you and our baby safe. I love you both."

"We love you too."

Later on that evening, Kenzie made some dinner. Iain sighed and joined her. "I've been thinking. Maybe I should go and see me mum. Make things right."

Kenzie looked at him. "If that's what you think is best? But be careful. I know how toxic she can be," she told him.

Iain smiled. He loved how caring Kenzie was. He knew she was going to be an amazing mum to their little girl.

Kenzie climbed into bed next to Iain. She was determined to make sure he fell asleep before her. She knew he needed the rest.

Iain kissed her lips and placed a hand on her baby bump. He knew things were only going to get worse before they got better.
