Aqrabuamelu was half scorpion half man seen as a protector of man in the fae. He would wage war on the gods and warn travelers that they might be in danger if he was shown this by the God of Gods. For some reason the Aqrabumelu upon seeing Kai and Susan chased after them.
"Wait!" The Aqrabuamelu yelled after them, causing the pair to pause in their flight, "Please wait, I need to warn you of something. I know I look scary, but fighting the Gods tends to do that!"
Susan remembering what Elizabeth had told her asked, "Do you ever fight the God of Gods?"
The Aqrabuamelu looked at her as if she was crazy, "Are you crazy?" He asked, "You want me to fight the God who gave me these powers to protect both humans and the inhabitants of this land from the other Gods who have gone insane?"
Susan shook her head, "no sorry, I didn't know. But why did he give you these powers?"
"Just to keep the other God's in check, and to help the residents of this land as needed. He stays away from here because it was not his creation, rather Eris's and Mab's, but they only have the power to mimic his power, it's not a true creation like when the God of Gods created the Earth."
"How does this affect the fae and humans? Are the fae not real or something?" Susan asked confused.
"Oh, the fae are very real, but they are birthed from the desire of Mab and Eris to have followers like the God of Gods. Unlike the God of Gods, the fae must worship one or the other, humans have free will in its entirety. God of Gods has told how he wants people to live, but he leaves it to them to decide whether or not they follow his ways and worship him. His ways are not easy and are often criticised and the cause of most wars, as no one wants his people or ways. To serve him is to have a short life but an eternity with him, to serve Mab or Aine is to have a long life now, but no afterlife, once you sleep you know no more."
"I see," Susan mused, "Can the fae worship the God of Gods?"
"They can, but if they do, they are condemned to live short lives like the humans, like you in the real world," Aqrabuamelu stated, "As you have come to the fae and are not one of his children, you are spared the curse on his children, for as long as you are here. Should you leave, your life will start up again from when you left the real world."
"And if I choose to follow him? What happens then?" Susan asked, curious as to the price she would pay if she did worship him over Aine, after all in her world he was the one worshiped or ridiculed depending on the persons beliefs or lack there of.
"Your lifespan will shorten to that of the real world," Aqrabuamelu smiled wryly, "I doubt that you will choose that though, nobody wants a shortened life here. Everybody enjoys each other here."
"If you are his servant, do you die like the rest of the humans and fae that worship him?" Kai asked.
"No," said the Aqrabuamelu shaking is head, "I am the exception, I can't be killed, I am like the out of time man from Dr Who Captain Jack Harkness. Though I am saying this to you I have no idea who that is, it's just what I was told to say."
"I understand," Sue said.
"You do?" Kai asked her, "As I am still lost."
"I do, I loved Dr Who, in particular Captain Jack Harkness...I just thought he was cute, like the 10th Dr was cute. But they were just random crushes that meant nothing." Susan explained.
Kai nodded still clueless, but deciding that if Susan understood that that was enough for him. The human world was beyond confusing to him, he was glad that he did not live there.
"It's my duty though to warn you of the danger you are about to face," the Aquabuamelu explained, "You are about to go through the Kitsune country. They are known to be tricksters. You think you are eating good food but it is rotten, things like this.
The Kitsune have differing power levels. There is the 3, 5, 7 and 9 tailed versions. You want to, if possible make a contract with a 9 tailed one before it registers that is what you are up to. Do not under any circumstances kiss a lower tailed one. Oh, sorry, I digress, to make a contract with the Kitsune, you as a human, must kiss their mouth, after which the contract is sealed and your will as to what your relationship will be is up to you. Some people use them as guards, some as lovers and some just as house slaves.
If you kiss any lower than the 9 tailed you risk being deceived by the higher level kitsune. You should be able to defeat anything lower than a 9 tailed anyway. It won't matter for you, Kai, being a kelpie, they will not be interested in you. If you had been a ogre they would have wanted to try fight you, mainly because they both have flames, you know fox fire verses ogre flame?"
Susan and Kai nodded their understanding, wondering how they were going to get around the problem of the kitsune.
"Do not worry, you will be fine if you wear this head gear," the Aquabuamelu reached into his bag and pulled out a hijab, "Make sure you cover your mouth so that only your eyes are showing. This has a blessing upon it that will hide your humanity, provided you keep your mouth and head covered. You need only do this until you find the nine tailed Kitsune and kiss him. The blessing will remain if you decide to keep the head dress and wear it."
"Thank you," Susan said, bowing her thanks to him.
"You're welcome child," he smiled at her, "I hope one day you choose the God of Gods over Eris one day, but he gives you free will. That goes for you too Kai, you are free to worship him too, he wont turn you away. Well this is goodbye then!" he bowed and left just as quickly as he arrived leaving Kai and Susan looking after him, a tinsy bit stupidly. Susan looked down at her hands and found the hijab in it. Remembering the "man's" instructions, Susan put the hijab on and the pair continued on their way.
