"The Birth of the Dark Hero." I read the headline aloud, the newspaper crackling as I unfolded it. The bold letters stretched across the page like a declaration, announcing the chaos from the night before as if it had been scripted all along. A grainy black-and-white photo sat just beneath the headline; Louis, Bill, Legoshi, and me, all frozen mid-scene, looking more confused than heroic.

"Don't look so down! The photo looks great, and the play last night was a success too!" Sheila, the drama club's effortlessly radiant cheetah, plucked the paper from my hands with a grin, fanning herself with it before scanning the page like it was a fashion spread with her name on it.

Her eyes sparkled as she read aloud. "Y/n and Adler's love story was utterly captivating. The show was full of suspense, romance, and action!" She practically bounced with excitement, laughing at the dramatics of it all.

Then, without hesitation, she dropped into the seat beside me and shamelessly snatched a dumpling off my tray. "This is a good thing," she mumbled, mid-chew, lips curved into a mischievous smile.

I groaned and buried my face in my hands. "Maybe for you. I'm mortified. I knew I shouldn't have agreed to act. First performance and of course something had to go sideways."

"You shouldn't be embarrassed," Sheila said, her tone suddenly softer. "Everyone loved it. Honestly, they all thought the whole thing was just part of the script."

The buzz about our performance had spread like wildfire, but each time the story was told, it got a little more warped and twisted into some exaggerated drama that barely resembled reality. Now, every hallway I walked down felt like a stage I hadn't agreed to be on. Students gave me these sly, knowing looks, whispers trailing behind me like shadows I couldn't outrun. The whole thing left a bitter taste in my mouth. Embarrassed didn't even begin to cover it. I felt stripped bare.

The lunch bell rang, slicing through the chatter and sending us all scattering to our last classes of the day. For me, that meant P.E.

Sheila grabbed one final dumpling off my tray with the stealth and precision of a seasoned thief. "You'll thank me later!" she called, already halfway to the door.

I scowled after her. I wanted that dumpling.

I picked up my pace, weaving through clumps of gossiping students and dodging the occasional side-eye. Within three minutes, I'd crossed campus and slipped into the gymnasium, where the sharp scent of rubber and floor polish filled the air.

"Y/n! Over here!"

I spun around, startled. Bill's voice cut through the buzz, and I spotted him behind the bleachers, waving me over like some sort of spy in a high school thriller. Before I could even ask why, he grabbed my wrist and yanked me into the narrow space behind the towering seats.

"What are you doing?" I asked. "Why are we hiding?"

Bill's eyes flicked toward the open gym floor, then back to me. "Everyone is talking about last night. Louis already texted Legoshi and me wanting to meet, probably so he can yell at us again."

"Well maybe if you two didn't go at it over some bunny blood you wouldn't be in this situation." I whisper yelled.

"I know. I'm sorry, but I can't change the past. Look, all we have to do is get through today and hide from as many people as possible and we'll be fine."

"And how do you expect us to hide all day?"

"Easy! We'll go to my dorm." Bill said quickly.

I looked at Bill as if he were an idiot. "Your dorm? Really?"
