Bill's POV:
Morning sunlight streamed through the open window, golden and soft, settling over the small motel room like a warm exhale. I'd been awake for a while, thirty minutes, maybe more, but I didn't move. I just lay there, quietly, watching her breathe.
Y/n was still asleep, curled into the crook of my arm like she'd always belonged there. The light hit her skin just right, softening every edge, making her look like something out of a dream. And maybe last night was one. But if it was, then I never wanted to wake up.
I studied her, the slow rise and fall of her chest, the way her lips barely parted with each breath, how the strands of her hair had fallen across her cheek in a mess she'd probably complain about later. But to me, she looked perfect; achingly, heartbreakingly perfect.
How did I get so lucky?
I still remembered the way it felt to lose her, how my heart cracked wide open when she was taken. That pain still lingered, a bruise somewhere deep in the cracks of my soul. But now? She was here. Safe. Breathing. In my arms.
And I would never take that for granted.
She stirred, stretching slightly, a quiet yawn escaping her lips. Then her eyes fluttered open and those gorgeous eyes, brighter than anything the sun could ever hope to outshine, met mine.
"Hey," she whispered, her voice thick with sleep, and smiled.
God.
That smile could destroy me.
I reached over and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, my fingertips trailing along her skin longer than necessary. "Good morning," I murmured, my voice lower, rougher than usual, probably because of all the emotions fighting for room in my chest.
She blinked at me for a second, then scooted in closer, nuzzling her head to my chin. In that quiet moment, I didn't need anything else. Not a plan, not an answer, not even a future. Just this.
Her. Here.
And the feeling that maybe, just maybe, I was finally home.
"How long have you been awake?" She asked groggily.
"Not long," I murmured, still holding her close, not quite ready to let go.
"What time is it?"
I glanced over at the clock on the nightstand. "Nine thirty."
"Shit." Her face fell. "Guess that means we've gotta start heading back to Cherryton, huh?" She sounded just as bummed as I felt.
I finally released her as she shuffled out of bed. She grabbed my uniform shirt off the floor and held it against her bare skin, using it to cover herself.
"I'm gonna take a bath. Want to join?" she asked, flashing me a smile.
I shot up from the bed without hesitation, and she laughed as I followed her into the bathroom.
"Hot or cold?" I asked, my hand on the faucet.
"Hot. Definitely hot."
I turned the knob to the left. Y/n dug through the vanity drawers, finally pulling out a single bottle labeled 3-in-1: Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash! She grinned as if she'd found treasure.
Once the tub was full, she stepped in and sighed contentedly, her body melting into the warm water. I climbed in next, and the sudden shift sent water spilling onto the floor.
"Shit. Sorry."
Y/n gave me a once-over, her brow furrowing.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
