Alex's POV"Uhm, Alex? You wanna dance?" I look up at a hopeful Mike H.
"What?" I know exactly what he said, but for some reason, part of me doesn't want to.
"Um, dance?" Mike H asks again.
"Uh.." I glance at Max, sort of for approval. It's stupid. Why would I need her approval to dance with anyone? Max meets my glance and we both quickly look away "Um.. sure?"
Oh my god. Why am I doing this? I don't want to dance with him. I know who I want to dance with, but I don't want to believe it. Why am I like this?
Mike H grins before grabbing my hand and helping me up. I don't feel butterflies in my stomach like I did when I grabbed Max's hands earlier today. Instead I just feel dread. Like there's a hole in my chest, or something.
We dance around my room like the other couples, but I don't make googly eyes with Mike the whole time. Instead my eyes drift towards the lonely red head in the corner.
At some point, Lucas and Dustin jokingly started slow dancing together. They laugh as they dance around the room. I glance over at Will and stare him down until he finally sees me. I move my eyes towards Mike W, trying to tell Will to grow a pair and ask him to dance.
Will's eyes open wide and he immediately shakes his head no. I nod but he doesn't budge. I leave it at that because I don't want to push him too far.
But I guess Mike W got tired of watching all the couples dance around, so he grabbed Will off the ground and started dancing around like a physco. To Mike W, it was just a fun little dance. But to Will, it was so much more. He started blushing profusely, and tries hiding his face by laughing into his arms.
I glance around the room to Max, sitting alone in the corner. "Uh, Mike? Maybe we should, I don't know, ask Max to dance with us? I think that'd be fun!" I say, trying not to sound too obvious.
"You want to dance with Max?" Mike H asks. His voice goes a little high, like he's hurt.
"No! I mean, yes? Well not in that way! Just like I'm trying to be friendly an-" I begin to ramble on.
"Alex, it's okay" Mike pats my shoulder "I know you're not into me. It's okay. And if you like Max, I promise I won't tell anyone!" he whispers, lowering his head so no one can hear him.
"What? You're crazy. I don't like Max. I mean, she's a girl!" I whisper defensively.
"Okay, okay. I'm sorry. I just thought- nevermind. But yes. We should ask Max to join us!" Mike smiles before putting his hands out and ushering Max to come dance with us.
Max looks confused, but walks over to us. "What's going on?" she asks.
"Uh, wanna dance with us?" I laugh to calm myself down, but it just makes me even more nervous.
Max's eyes widen a bit, "Yeah! I mean, uh yeah that'd be fun". We both laugh awkwardly as she joins hands with Mike and I.
