"Daizha what the fuck happened to your head?" mom asked as soon as we stepped through the door. "Hey mom nice to see you too." I said sarcastically before sitting on the kitchen counter. "I expect it from you." my mom said, waving me off. "I'm hungry." I complained "Fine. But you're buying my Warped Tour ticket this year." Daizha said. She knew my complaint was actually me begging her to cook. It was my turn to pay anyways."What do you want?" she asked opening the cabinet. I just looked at her until she sighed and grabbed the ramen. Mom looked at us in amusement. "I will never understand how you two do that." My mom looked between us in amazement. She could never figure out how we communicated without talking. I didn't really get it either to be quite honest. It just kind of happened. "So lets talk about college" my mother suggested. I let out a very sarcastic laugh. "So lets not." I said earning an eye roll from my mom. She knows about the whole band situation but never really believed in it. Daizha and I started a band in like seventh grade. We learned our instruments as freshmen but never found other members. "You know I want to move to New York" I say. I don't bring up Negative Intake but try to ease her into the though of me moving several states away. "They have great colleges in-"
"Yes, in Austin. I know mom."
"Well maybe you could go there."
"I can't stay in this state unless you want me to go crazy."
"You're more than halfway there." she yelled. At this point we were shouting. I was about to yell something about how insanity must be genetic when the microwave beeped. Oh fuck, Daizha's here. I looked over at her realizing that we've put her in an uncomfortable spot but she seemed okay. My mom rolled her eyes once again before muttering something about Walmart and leaving the house. "Sorry about that." I said, turning to Daizha. "She wants me out of the house but not out of the state." I explained though I didn't really have to. She understood my mom. Daizha laughed "Well, she wasn't wrong about you being crazy." I flipped her off before climbing the stairs up to my room. She followed me in and handed me the hot bowl before making herself comfortable. "So, how are things with Michael?" she questioned. I had to think about that. I mean, nothing really changed. Shit. Does this mean he doesn't like me? Is he regretting everything? We should just break up. I mean, I'm leaving in a few months anyways. He knows that yet, he still sticks around. I can't leave him. I like him too mu- "Hello??" Daizha said shaking me out of my thoughts. I laughed "Oh sorry. We're fine. How are things going with that Asian kid?" I smirked knowing she hated it when I called Calum Asian. It's not like she didn't do the same thing. "Well his old family friend is in town for the first time in years.." She trailed off. "Oh. Is he cute?" I tried to lighten the mood a little since she seemed kinda upset over the whole thing. She scoffed. "Yeah, she's fucking adorable." Well damn. "Jealous much?" I teased. It was probably the wrong thing to do but she laughed it off anyways. Daizha wasn't for the whole jealous teen drama thing so something else must've been upsetting her. "He's just missed two of our dates to hang out with her. Like, I get it. They haven't seen each other in a long time but come on, there are 24 hours in a day and I think the girlfriend deserves at least one or two of them." She ranted. That explains a lot. Daizha loved the idea of leaving the house with people she cared about and couldn't stand the idea of cancelled plans. "Aw, I'd take you on a date but Mikey probably wouldn't like that." I joked. Sometimes sarcasm worked better than sympathy in our friendship though we did occasionally communicate like actual human beings. We laughed it off and changed the subject to totally ridiculous and random crap. "Stay the night? It's getting kind of late and I'm gonna be bored." I asked. Honestly, it was mostly because I slept better and was less paranoid when I wasn't sleeping alone. "Yeah, sure." I got up and threw a pair of sweatpants at Daizha. They were probably hers anyways. "Oh you won't have to worry about Calum's friend or whatever tonight." I said. "All the guys went to some party." I told her as I thought she had the right to know. "Ashton is calling you." she announced as if I couldn't hear my phone ringing. I sighed in annoyance. "Well pick it up then." I said while trying to find my phone charger. "Holy fuck is he okay?" I hear Daizha yell through the phone. I look over to see her worried expression. "Yeah, okay. We'll be right there. Text me the address." She said before hanging up. "What the hell was that?" I asked as she stood up to put her jeans back on. "That party. Mikey got really drunk and punched some guy. That guy wasn't nearly as drunk and beat the crap out of your boyfriend." She explained while we were rushing downstairs. I tried desperately not to freak out. "Is he okay?" I asked, struggling to keep my voice calm. She tossed me the keys as we walked out to her car and I slid into the drivers seat. "Yeah but he's gonna be bruised pretty badly for awhile. Just don't freak out okay?" I nodded before pulling out of the driveway. I couldn't stand being around drunk people if I wasn't drinking. It freaked me out. "What's the address?" I asked. "It's on Calum's street. I'll point it out to you." I nodded and turned on the radio trying to remain focused on only the road. "He's not my boyfriend." I decided to randomly announce. "Yes he is." Daizha said and seemed confused. "No. We're just.. dating. I don't know. It's complicated but he's not my boyfriend." I tried to explain. "Whatever you say." she replied, seemingly unconvinced. "It's the third house on his street." Daizha told me but it's not like I couldn't have found it. The driveway was full and people were everywhere. I could hear the music from one street over. I pulled over and hopped out of the car before throwing the keys back to Daizha. "Deep breaths." she reminded me. I did as she said before nodding and walking up to the wide open front door. The music shook the whole house and possibly the whole world. I grabbed hold of Daizha's sleeve because I'd panic if I lost her in this mass of people. l looked around everywhere for anyone I could vaguely recognize before finding Ashton. I ran up to him immediately, pulling Daizha along. "Where is he?" I yelled over the impossibly loud noise. "Upstairs second door to the right." He yelled back and looked concerned. He gave me a thumbs and mouthed 'you okay?' I just nodded before dragging Daizha up the stairs where it was relatively quiet compared to the rest of the house. I cautiously opened to door Ash had directed us to and revealed a bloody Michael under the covers of some strangers bed. Rather than running up to him, I approached slowly. He had his eyes closed so I used this time to see his injuries. A bloody lip, bruise on his cheek, black eye, and bruises and red marks all along his chest and stomach. I'd be uncomfortable and almost embarrassed at the fact that he was shirtless if only I didn't have to see him like this. He drifted back into consciousness and opened his eyes. "Hey." he said and giggled a little bit. Now that I knew he was okay, I could roll my eyes at the fact that he was still a pretty drunk idiot. I let go of Daizha's sleeve and walked up to the bed. "We gotta get you home Mikey." I said and moved to help him get up. He just giggled again and started talking gibberish about my hair. I had to laugh just a little at the fact that he was basically two years old right now. I got him to stand up but most of his weight was leaning against me. Daizha walked over to help me get him down the stairs. Luckily, he made it without falling and no one seemed to notice that we were leaving. "Can you drive? I'm going to sit in the back with him." I said to Daizha realizing that Mikey needed to lay down. "You can't take me home Maddyyyy." he said while getting in the car. "Why not?" I questioned. He laughed. "I don't have a key." Shit. "Daizha, we have to take him to my house. He doesn't have his keys." She sighed and nodded. I texted Ashton letting him know that we made it out okay. "I'll sleep in the guest room." Daizha offered as we finally made it into my house 15 minutes later. I nodded though she hasn't slept in the guest room in years, if ever. I help a sleepy Michael to my room and let him get comfy on the bed. "Alright Mikey, I'm gonna go sleep on the couch." I said deciding that Dai could have the spare bed all to herself tonight. "Come get me if you need anything." I added. As I turned to walk out of the room, he stopped me. "Lay with me." He said. I turned to look at him and almost considered rejecting his offer. However, I didn't and ended up falling asleep in my jeans next to my almost boyfriend.
