"Ughh!" Ryan screamed, throwing her phone on the couch and dropping her head on the countertop.

"I told you!" You smiled, turning around to see her shaking her head.

"Yeah, but I just wanted one proper dinner with my family, just the one!" She lifted her head, resting it on her hands, looking up at you. "And, my mom is trying to find a reason not to see him."

"She isn't the only one." You muttered under your breath.

"Seriously, dude?" She shot her head up. "I have enough things going against me, right now. I don't need your negativity, to top it off."

"Fine! Fine, I'm sorry." You raised your hands in surrender. "What did muma say?" You wiped your hands on the kitchen towel and threw it over your shoulder. You never really called Hayley and Chris, Mr. and Mrs. Evans, since they were so close to you, you called them muma and pops.

"Now dad is gonna be out of town."

"On that day?"

"Yeah, gone for the long weekend."

"Wait, long weekend?" You asked.

"Yeah, Thanksgiving," She jumped off her chair. "Oh, I-I am sorry, I forgot." She walked over and hugged you.

Saturday, November 26. A day you can't, and will never forget. The day your pillar left you, the day your world came crumbling down, the day that changed your life forever.

The day your father died.

"No, no, it's okay." You smiled softly. "So, when are you gonna reschedule to?"

"I honestly don't know?" She sighed, getting her phone from the couch. "I am this close to doing to right now right here." She said pinching her fingers together, and texting someone. "Actually, you know what how about we do have it right now?" She looked up from her phone.

"I-"

"Yes or no?"

You check your watch, "you know what? Yes." You smiled. "But, how are they supposed to make it here from Boston in a few minutes?"

"Oh no, it's gonna be just us, and when they decided to act like adults about this, we can go out again." She said, pulling you along with her.

"No, no, wait!" You stopped her, holding the doorframe of her room for leverage. "Come on, Ry!" You tilted your head. "You have to understand what it might be like for her too." You set her on the bed. "She loved him, opened up to him, and he left her, exposed and vulnerable." You hold her head up. "I get that he is your father and everything, but she had a history with him, a story that didn't end well. It's gonna take some time for her to accept the fact that he is also a part of your life."

"Yeah, but-"

"Just let her settle in, it's only been two weeks since you guys started hanging out. She isn't as open and free as you, she will come over it, just give her some time. Okay?" You ask, running your hand through her hair.

"Now, come on! I made that Tiktok pasta thing you were asking for. I need my taste tester to see how it is?" You smiled, pulling her up.

"Okay!" She smiled, letting you drag her into the kitchen.

As you guys were finishing the food, Ryan's phoned bussed.

"Hello?" She answered, her face dropped for a second before lighting up at what they were saying. "Really?" She nodded. "Okay! What about Tommy?... Oh, yeah, I got it... Yes, yes, I will tell her." She smiled, cutting the call and turning back to you.
