You couldn't stop thinking about last night. Jake hadn't texted you all day, and you knew in your heart it was because he was so busy but it still stung a little. You had all your equipment ready for the show tonight and all that was left to do was to pick out your outfit. You grabbed a floral print, floor length boho skirt and a pastel yellow cropped tank top. Staring at yourself in the mirror, you began to pick apart every flaw you could see. Suddenly your phone dinged, pulling you out of your pity party. It was from Josh. Damn.
"Hey lady, we're running late. Won't be at the venue until 6 now. Sorry! We love you and appreciate you!"
Late. Of course. Oh well, you'll just show up on time anyhow. Get everything ready before the boys get there. Why did Josh have time to text you, but Jake didn't? Ugh, you tried to shake it off.
6pm rolls around and you hear the boys booming voices flood the halls outside of your dressing room. You didn't want to be rude but you couldn't bring yourself to go out and greet them. You were so nervous that your night with Jake was a one time thing, and you couldn't bare the thought of facing that right now. 20 minutes go by and you hear a soft knock on your door. So soft you almost didn't hear it. You opened the door to see Jake standing there. He looked heartbroken. You couldn't bring yourself to speak so you just moved to the side allowing Jake the room to enter. He walked past you and you could smell the alcohol on him. You closed the door and as soon as you turned around you were bombarded by Jake. He wrapped himself around you and squeezed tight. You almost couldn't breathe. He released his grip on you, just a little bit. You heard his breath falter, and felt a tear fall from his eyes onto your cheek. You looked up at him, grabbed his face in your hands and used your thumb to wipe away the remaining tear. "Jake, baby, what's wrong?" You asked in the sweetest voice you could muster. He looked into your eyes, grabbed your face and put his forehead against yours. Staying like that for a moment before saying "I like it when you call me baby." He spoke so softly. You've never heard Jakes voice sound so delicate. "Baby, talk to me" you urged him. "Will you just hold me for a few minutes. Please" he pleaded with you. You decided to let it go. Holding Jake in your arms would be nirvana. "Of course" you responded. He let you go and bent down to take off his Chelsea's. You made your way to the couch and laid down, gently patting the empty space next to you. Jake obeyed your soft command and settled down next to you. He rested his head on your chest and slung his arm over your waist. He let out a substantial sigh. You laid one hand on his bicep and the other was running through his hair. You started to hum 'Can I believe you' by Fleet Foxes, knowing damn well it was a song he liked greatly. He squeezed you once he recognized the tune. You never wanted this moment to end. You knew in your heart you were falling in love with him. And you knew he would never be able to give you the time you wanted let alone needed. You tried not to overthink, you tried to just enjoy the moment. Feeling his body shift with his breathing, feeling the softness of his hair through your fingers. You stopped humming when Jake looked up at you. He reached for your face and leaned up towards you, you bent your head down to meet him halfway, locking lips with the most beautiful man you've ever seen. These kisses were different than last night. They were soft. Gentle. Loving. You could almost cry. He pulled back and said "Thank you. I needed this." He rested his head back onto your chest and the two of you feeling so calm managed to drift off to sleep, holding each other.
You were jolted awake by loud banging on your door "YO JAKE LETS GOOO." That was Sammy, you knew his voice. "Shit, what time is it?!" Jake said shooting up from the couch. "Coming!" He shouted back through the door. He grabbed his Chelsea's not even bothering to put them on. He rushed to the door but before stepping through the frame he looked back at you "see you out there" he winked and disappeared into the hallway.
