"All done, chief!"
I finally arrive at the prison yard.

"It took a while to calm everyone down, but I heard each sides of the story and managed to find a solution. All the injured guards are now taken care of."

"I knew I could count on you, Y/N!"
There was fear in chief's voice.
Aw, come on. Simon is not THAT scary.

"...
Um...
...are you going to let me go back to watching Mr. Blackquill or...?"
I said after some awkward silence.

"...Y/N... about that...
Mr. Blackquill's schedule is going to be a little complicated, and... it'll be problematic for you to keep watching over him."
Chief tried to piece together a sentence.
Simon looked away.

"W-What do you mean, chief?
Let me look at it, I'm sure I'll be able to follow it. It's my duty as Simon's prison guard to alway watch him, after all."
I replied.
There's no way I'm leaving Simon.
We became quite close... and...
He make me feel things...

"W-Well... y-you see... I'm afraid that'll be impossible."

"E-Excuse me...?"
What is going on...? There's no reason for not letting me out with him into the courthouse... It seems like the chief knows that, but he is trying to find an explanation, an excuse.
"Um... w-well..."

"L/N-Dono.
Sadly, you won't be my guard anymore."
Simon spoke up.

"W-What? Why??"
I demanded an answer.

"It's for the better."
Blackquill sounded unsure. He didn't want this.
Then... why...?

"For... the... better...?"

"It's better for you to forget about me than to cry over my grave."
It hurt him to say that.

"N-NO! Why am I not getting a saying in this? I'm NOT leaving you like that!"
My voice broke.

"THIS is the problem! If you can't just let me go like that, what will happen when my sentence will be carried out?"

I...
He is right.
I would not know what to do with myself if it happens.

"I'm sorry, Y/N.
You don't deserve to suffer because of me."
Simon struggled to look at me in the eyes.

"I-I... p-please..."
Tears filled my eyes.

"Just... forget about me..."
He was trying so hard to keep calm.

I ran to Blackquill, wrapping my arms around him.
He hugged me back, letting me cry into his chest.
He himself was very overwhelmed.
He just didn't show that.

Tell him.
Tell him how you feel.
It's your only chance.

...but I can't...
The words just won't come out of my mouth.

"I... suppose you can go home for today. I'll call you about your reassignment to a different inmate-"

"I can't anymore. I QUIT."
I cut my ex-chief off, handing him my badge.

"K-Keep it..."
The chief looked away. With hope that I'll come back eventually.
But I won't.
It'll hurt too much.

"G-Goodbye."

I took one last look at Simon Blackquill, and left before he could say anything.
____

S-Stupid...
Why am I so stupid...

I've fallen for a criminal.
A death row convict.
I'm such a fool!

I know Simon has a point.
B-But... why did he do this now...?
Did I do something wrong?

He was hesitant, but I probably made him take this choice.

...

There's no point in dwelling on the past.

Simon wants me to forget him.
It's the least I can do for him.

But it's hard. It's going to be impossible.

This is what being nice did to you.
It's all your fault, Y/N.
You messed up.
And now there's no going back.

If only I didn't become so close to him...

I miss him already...

I-Idiot! I'm just an idiot!
