SCENE TWO

(At the palace, the King was seated and Petrus enters to answer the King's call)

KING

"My son, as you can see, I am not getting any younger and the same applies to you. You know that you are my Prince and you cannot ascend this throne without a wife and if I join my ancestors without blessing you and your wife, you cannot rule this kingdom and I will not forgive you even in death if the kingship leaves our family because of you. I want to bless you before I join my ancestors or do you want me to search for a wife for you? You have been quiet all along or am I talking to a spirit?

PETRUS

"Father, I heard all that you have said and am glad to inform you that I have found for myself a wife.

KING

(Anxious) "Who is she and where is she from?

PETRUS

She is the first daughter of Mazi Okechukwu and she is from this our Emudo community".

KING

That is nice; I have known that family to be a good family. Thanks to the gods. Why don't you bring her to me and your mother for us to see her and possibly give her our blessing? (The sound of their noise made the mother come out from the kitchen to know what was going on, on hearing the news; she also jumped out of excitement)

PETRUS

However, there is a problem. (The atmosphere changed and everybody was calm to know what the problem was)

KING

So what is the problem, my son?

PETRUS

I have proposed to her but she has not given me any reply. She said that she wants to think about it. (The mother laughed at him, everyone was surprised about her action, but she told them that it is no problem at all and that they should not worry).

QUEEN

"I am a woman and we women do not accept such easily or do you think I accepted your father the day he proposed to me? Even though he was a Prince back then. She needs to inform her parents, but the truth is that she loves you. So my Dear don't worry yourself. Cool down and give her some time and meet her in the next two market weeks maybe by then she might have gotten a reply which my instincts tell me, will be positive. (They continued the discussion as the light fades)
