ACT ONE

SCENE THREE

(At the kitchen, Anita enters to help her mother out, she now tells her about the prince's proposal)

ANITA

"Mum, there is something I had wanted to tell you people but I wanted to tell you first before I tell Dad".

MRS. OKECHUKWU

Ok, my daughter what could that be?

ANITA

The Prince proposed to me.

MRS. OKECHUKWU

So what did you tell him?

ANITA

I told him to give me time to think about it.

MRS. OKECHUKWU

That is very thoughtful of you my daughter. I am happy that my daughter found favor in the eyes of the Prince. Anyway, am not the one getting married to him but before I go further I have a question for you. (Anita became attentive immediately wondering what the question could be.) "Do you love the Prince enough to make him your husband?"

ANITA

(Smiling) "Love is an understatement to compare what I feel for him, know we have been dating for over 5 years now and I have grown to know and understand him well.

MRS. OKECHUKWU

Ok... if you say so, but we have to wait for your father to come back because he is the head of the family and he is the one to approve it.

ANITA

"Mum, please I sincerely love him not because he is the Prince but because he has all I want in a man. I just love him. Please, help me talk to father when he comes back.

(She implored her mother, passionately)

MRS. OKECHUKWU

Ok, I will do that for you my daughter just go and prepare his favorite dish because he will be back soon.

ANITA

Ok, mum. Let me do so at once

(After the dinner, the mother brought up the topic.)

MRS. OKECHUKWU

Honey, our daughter says she has something to tell you.

MR. OKECHUKWU

My ears are open.

ANITA

Papa, the Prince proposed to me.

MR. OKECHUKWU

Wow..... (Surprised) That is good news. But do you love him well enough to marry him?

ANITA

Yes, papa, I do.

MR. OKECHUKWU

Are you aware that marriage is for better, for worse?

ANITA

Yes, papa, I do.....

MR. OKECHUKWU

This one you are just saying "I do" Are you using me for practice? (They all laughed) So when are we going to see him? (On hearing this from her father, she jumped up out of excitement and hugged her parents. That night, she was just awake waiting for morning to arrive so she could go and inform her friends about what her parents said)
