SCENE ONE

(Genny and Mma were discussing on their way back from the village girls' meeting)

MMA

Have you heard that the prince is getting married? After making me believe that I would be the next queen. Hmm, I will make him suffer. (Chidimma "Mma for short" complained to her friend Genny)

GENNY

So, what are your plans now because you and I know that Petrus is the Prince and will be the next king of this land and by that he will always be surrounded by his guards. So, how are you going to go against him or are you ready to die now? If I am to advise you as a friend I will tell you to back out because it was you who threw yourself on him and lured him into sleeping with you. So, do not blame him for your foolishness. After all, you never loved him.

MMA

But my dear friend, people already see me as the Queen, so how can I explain that I lost to a low-status girl? No!!! Impossible, I must fight for what is rightfully mine.

GENNY

Who told you that being the Queen is yours by right? See, let me tell you, the earlier you stop dreaming and face reality the better for you. But my dear, you are a very good comedian, let me ask you one question, "Is the Prince a property, material or even land to be owned by someone?" I tell you, he is neither of these and won't be, so you better stop making noise before you damage my eardrum with it. Come to think of it, I remember telling you to stop parading yourself around the village and intimidating others saying that you are the Queen but you did not listen to me. I think that is the reason why the Prince left you. Now they will all turn against you. Please, I beg of you not to do anything stupid unless you are stupid... Apologies anyway, I am going, if you like stay there and kill yourself. (Genny left her friend angrily and went to her house. Lights fade out)

The following morning as Anita was going to the market, she was ambushed by some hoodlums. She was nearly beaten to death and was about to be raped when a hunter saved her by shooting one of the boys while the remaining two ran away. They were later caught and taken to the palace. They were made to confess after been mercilessly tortured. Lo and behold, it was Chidimma that sent them to kill her so that the prince will not marry her. They were all apprehended and imprisoned. Anita was taken to the hospital where she received some treatment and later regained her health in a couple of days as the light fades to darkness)
