"Explain. How were you able to do that? It was incurable " He began , tone cold and emotionless.
"As i've said , nothing is impossible if you have enough power . And what i did was a simple trick."
Simple doesn't begin to cover it though...... I thought as i sipped on the tea .
We were currently in the director's office of the church, sitting on the couches and sipping the tea prepared .
I stared into his eyes , looking at him directly , unsaying . The tension was so thick as if a heavy weight was upon our shoulders. He was the first to relent , breaking the ice.
"Teach me." He choked out , as if it pained him greatly so say it .
"Why , you have no use for it? " I said , testing him .
His perfect façade started to crack , showing glimpses of his his true self . He hissed , clenching his fists , trying not to lose his control .
"I will , with a condition."
His head snapped up at that , attitude taking a full one eighty , from anger to suspicion .
"Name it. " He said , wary .
" I demand your loyalty . Though you have been bound by the magic contract , in exchange for the method , i want your loyalty. You shall never betray me." I paused.
"Why should I ? "
"Don't fool me. Your eyes betray you . I can see the same anger and hatred i harbor . The hate, the grief , the thirst for revenge " I said , drawing my face closer to his , our noses touching.
"You want to get revenge for your mother's death . You want revenge at the 'father' of yours for refusing to help . You want to bring this nation to it's knees , to stand above others , to have the power to change things ." I whispered directly into his ears .
He clenched his fists .
One more push .
Drawing my face away , i said " We are of the same cloth. You can't deny that fact . Join me . Join me as i bring this nation to the ground . "
"This country is imperfect , with rot infesting the previously pure core . People are suffering on a daily basis , lives taken by the plague . Altradore is weakening, without change we are all doomed . " I continued .
"I shall be that change . I shall pay those who have wronged me back a thousand fold . To get revenge on the nobles . To avenge the many commoners that fell to the plague."
"Now , Max , will you join me in watching the country fall ? Or will you be on the side of the nobility , the ones who have wronged you . The ones who have killed your mother . and sit idly by as i burn this country? " I reached out a hand, giving him the chance .
He got up , walking to my side .
Getting on one knee , he said " My life is yours to use as you see fit . I , Max , shall be the sword that strikes down your enemy , the shield that protects you , the light that guides you . This i swear upon my life to the Mother Goddess ."
"Rise." I said , looking at him with a smile that did not reach my eyes.
----------
Woah what a hectic day .
After our return from the orphanage , I taught Max the cure to the plague , explaining to him every detail of it . It took the rest of the day to practice with Max unable to master it yet .
Thankfully with a mana user among my subordinates , i could entrust the orphanage to him . This way , i could have more time to scheme and draw out the plans . But before that could happen , Max needed to be trained , and who better suited to do it than Lavina . She would make sure that Max is thoroughly trained .
Max you have tough times ahead of you .......
