Rowans POV

Boom! The sound of an explosion echoed around Shadow and me.

"What in the world....?" I murmured. "Shadow did you hear that too or is it just me?"

"I heard it too," Shadow whispered back. "What did you do this time?"

"I didn't do anything," I shot back, "This time." I added after further thought.

"Let's go find out," Shadow shot through the sky like an arrow. In the back of my mind, I wondered who dared mess with my catastrophically wonderful creations. And what punishment they would receive.

As we rounded the tip of the crescent, I realized it hadn't been one of my creations. For once.

Shadow and I had left the rest of the Dragon Pirates fighting the invading Dragon Riders over the ocean. But clearly, it hadn't been all of them.

A green speckled Zippleback hovered next to the steaming waterfall, the two riders on it cheering at the havoc they had caused.

My eyes lit up at the wrecked site, taking in the mass destruction in awe, wondering how I could replicate it.

The prison caves had completely caved in. The Zippleback must've filled the insides of the cavern with zippleback gas and then sparked it, detonating the mountain from the inside. The waterfall steamed and smoke filled the air. Rubble had taken over the ledge in front of the caves. It was brilliant, but I knew that my best friend was stuck underneath all that somewhere, and I had to get her out.

Should I save Acacia... or .... I could do that later and congratulate these nutters on this magnificent destruction, and maybe give them some tips.

I figured I should save Acacia, but Shadow stopped me. A draconic grin lit up her face as she said, "I wish I could do that!" She started flying towards the Zippleback and their white blonde riders, who I figured were twins. "Let's go ask them for advice!"

I beamed. I had taught this dragon so well.

Then my mischievous dragon stopped abruptly. Perking her ears and hovering in the air, she seemed to hear something my puny human senses couldn't detect.

"Can you hear that?" She whispered to me. I shook my head, trying not to make any noise, to see if the sound Shadow heard might reach me. My dragon grinned. "Oh yeah, of course not. Lesser species like you can't hear anything."

I swatted at her, trying to find a good comeback. "At least I'm smarter than you. What do you even hear?"

"Sounds like someone's...." Shadow trailed off, trying to find the right word. "Calling for help?" Then she gasped. "It's Acacia!"

At this point I realized that the Zippleback and it's riders were conveniently right in front of the cave's entrance. Well, what was the cave's entrance. The idiot twins probably hadn't meant to do that, but now they were unknowingly stopping us from reaching Acacia. Shadow must've realized it too, cause I could feel her muscles tensing.

"We have to get Acacia." I murmured, eyeing the twins apprehensively. They hadn't noticed us yet, but their dragon's heads had started talking to each other, and I could make out a couple words, including, "smell", "suspicious", and "Night Fury?" They probably sensed us. "And we have to do it quick," I added.

Shadow didn't need a moment more of encouragement. She shot a blue plasma blast at the Zippleback's chest. The hit caused the dragon and their riders to plummet towards the ocean. The cave was wide open.

We rocketed forward, flying as far into the cave as we could go before the debris stopped us. Shadow shot another blast, clearing a little of the rubble.

"Acacia!" I hollered, wondering how far my voice would travel in these tight quarters. "Where are you?"

No response.

I kept calling, and Shadow joined me. We dug through the wreckage desperately. Shadow cleared some more away, but after 3 more shots I made her stop. If she ran out of shots we were almost completely defenseless.

Suddenly, a pile of rubble moved.

Looking back, it was kind of creepy. But then, a little hope blossomed inside me.

Shadow and I stood on guard for a second, until I recognized the color of blue that was underneath the rocks.

That was the color that I saw when I was flying with Shadow, alone, all those years ago. That was the color I saw when no one else trusted me and Azure and Acacia enveloped me in the first hug I had received in years. That was the color I see everyday, the color that brings a fun, silly, joyful dragon along.

"Azure!" I screamed in relief.

"Quick," Shadow demanded when the blue dragon groaned. "Pull them out."

The young Night Light shoved the heavy rubble against the wall, giving me a small opening to get my friends out.

I tugged with all my strength, and Azure seemed to be helping too. Despite being half-conscious and most likely very injured, the dramillion was noble, just like her rider. (Don't you dare tell either of them I said that, though. It would ruin my beautiful reputation.)

Once free of the debris, Azure blearily opened her eyes. Seeing us, she smiled softly.

"Hey guys," She said, her voice hoarse. "Took you long enough."

I replied, sarcasm coating my words, "Oh sorry about that, we were waiting for you guys to almost die before we rescued you. Cause, y'know, that way we get all the glory."

Azure smirked. Then she opened her wings, revealing two limp bodies.

I gasped, rushing to pull Acacia to safety. I held her in my arms and looked her over. She had obviously taken a hit to the head, for there was blood coating her forehead and hair. Other than that and a few scratches and bruises, she actually looked okay. Especially for the fact that a mountain had just collapsed on her.

I took my focus off of Acacia and looked to the other person that Azure had saved. It was the boy, I realized. The Night Fury's rider.

"It was his friends that did this," I muttered bitterly. "You shouldn't have saved him."

Azure looked at me, then at Shadow, then back at me. "Rowan..." She started, watching my face carefully. "He- he says that Acacia is his sister."
