"what's this?" Chaerin asked, eyeing the small envelope on her empty bed stand amidst all the boxes in her room. haechan, mark and jeno were currently invited over to help her pack up to move into her new house. after the divorce settlement her mother thought it was best for them to move and start over again, somewhere far away from her father who now had a restraining order to follow.

"uh...nothing..." haechan said, reaching to the table to pick up the letter faster than she could making her raise her eyebrows in suspicion.

"let me see then...come on, we agreed on no more secrets" she said walking up to him but he just placed the letter behind his back making her scowl slightly.

he bit his lower lip as his hands played with the envelope behind his back, the one soyeon had asked him to give to Chaerin.

"haechan" chaerin said, with a comforting smile but a stern one, trying to get haechan to give her the letter. the attention of mark and jeno was now placed on them both and haechan was stuck between a rock and a hard place.

as Soyeon said, it was an apology letter. but what if it wasn't. what if it made things worse, how could he be so careless as to leave it on her table.

"it's....from soyeon" haechan whispered, but it was loud enough for jeno to hear and he tensed up a bit. he didn't like what his sister had done to Chaerin, his best friend haechan and also to himself. but nevertheless she was his sister who was now miles away from him. his family was torn after she had left with their dad. now jeno was in a house alone with his mother, that he sometimes purposely avoided, wanting to not see her sad face all the time.

"I don't think you should see it, what if there's-"

"there isn't. she's changed." jeno said with a stern voice, making sure his sister didn't get talked down

"you really think someone like her is gonna change-"

"haechan! stop that!" Chaerin said making him sigh and purse his lips shut. she turned to jeno who was now standing there with a slight frown

"I'm sorry jeno, he didn't mean it like that...but I'm sure you understand where his concern is coming from right?" she asked him and jeno slowly nodded with a sigh, deciding to stay out of it from now on.

"she's in italy channie...she's not going to hurt me-"

"we don't know that! just don't open it...let's just throw it in the bin or-"

"it's not your decision to make. hand it over" Chaerin said with a slightly hurt expression, not liking how haechan was acting over protectively, as if she was five.

"give it" she said and haechan sighed, placing the envelope into her extended hand as his eyes looking to the ground.

"thank you" she muttered out with a sigh before she walked out of the nearly empty bedroom with heavy footsteps.

"this wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for your fucking sister" haechan said, clenching his jaw as he stared at jeno with a harsh gaze.

"haechan don-"

"she made a mistake. a big fucking mistake, I know that but-"

"so you're gonna defend her now? is that it? you're going to defend a fucking bully-"

"watch your fucking mouth, Soyeon is my sister" jeno said as he charged towards haechan and grabbed his collar with his hands

"and Chaerin is my girlfriend...who, by the way, ended up in the hospital because of-"

"GUYS! Seriously! stop it!" Mark said with an annoyed tone, stepping inbetween haechan and jeno

"what happened to leave the past in the past? it happened over two months ago, please let's just....move on....for Chaerin's sake" Mark said with a sigh

"I've know Chaerin for years, Mark knew her from the day she was born...you haven't even been with her for a mon-"

"are you saying I have to right to-"

"I will not repeat myself! both of you just shut the fuck up!" mark shouted and jeno growled slightly, moving away from the other two boys and leaving the room, slamming the door shut behind him

"was that really fucking necessary?" mark asked with an annoyed expression as he looked at haechan who was rolling his eyes

"yes it was! Soyeon basically ruined her li-"

"haechan...Soyeon and Chaerin have been inseparable since the day they became friends. they did everything together. hell I even thought she was interested in girls at one point...the thing is, no matter how much you try to comprehend why Chaerin still gives a chance to Soyeon is because she knows her...she knows her better than the rest of us do....and vice versa" mark said, slowly and carefully trying to make haechan calm down.

"but....she put her through hell and....like why....why would she even read the letter?!" haechan asked frustratedly

"because she needs that closure....don't you think Chaerin deserves an explanation?" mark asked

"personally....I just think she needs to move on-"

"yes, I do too. but the only way that can happen, is if she understands why it happened in the first place" mark said and haechan sighed, slowly nodding and accepting the fact that Chaerin indeed did deserve an explanation.

"I guess...I owe jeno an apology" haechan said and mark nodded with a small smile

"don't take too long though, I have a dust allergy and this rusty ass book shelf isnt hel-" before mark could finish complaining the bedroom door had shut, signalling that haechan had left the room. chuckling to himself, mark carried on with placed the old books into cardboard boxes, waiting for the other three to head back into the room.

"mind if I....sit?" haechan asked nervously as he stepped out of the room, seeing jeno sitting midway down the staircase. jeno turned his head back to see haechan looking down at him, taking quiet steps until he was seated beside jeno.

"I never said I don't mind" jeno said, rolling his eyes

"you never said you do mind either" haechan retorted and the two soon chuckled through the silence at their constant banter that never ceases to exist

"hey listen...I know before...I normally dont apologise when I say a bunch of hurtful things but....what I said back there...I went a bit too far with that one. no hard feelings yeah?" haechan said, pursing his lips together.

"that was a....pretty shit apology" jenl said making haechan groan

"why didn't you tell me....if you knew it was Soyeon?" jeno asked, out of curiosity and concern

"I only found out the day before our exams and I guess....I was in a bit of shock too. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it incase Chaerin got distracted from her exams.....trust me, if I knew it would have gone this far i would have told you" haechan said honestly

"yeah....that's understandable I guess. I haven't talked to Soyeon since she left" Jeno said with a sigh

"I'm sorry it's just....I dont even know how someone like you could be related to someone like that-"

"yeah about that......" jeno said, drifting off making haechan raise an eyebrow

"about that?" Haechan pressed on

"she was adopted....my parents took her in when she was like nine" jeno said and haechan widened his eyes

"I didnt tell anyone because...I did like having a sister, it's not like she was a bitch....at that time anyway. I think that's why I'm defending her now.....because I pity her" jeno confessed

"you pity her?" haechan asked

"her parents....they never loved her. her dad was an alcoholic as well as a corrupted business man and her mother was a materialistic woman and was only with him for the money.....I guess now its pretty self explanatory why she turned out the way that she did huh?" jeno said, turning to look at haechan

"shit....man...i-i had no idea..." haechan said, running his fingers through his hair

"it's okay...like i said, I never told anyone and....I'd prefer to keep it like that" jeno said and haechan nodded

"I won't tell a soul" he said, patting jeno's shoulder reassuringly but before jeno could respond, the sound of the front door opening caught their attention.
