CHAPTER 13

"Go back here!" Sigaw ng ama niya. "Huwag mo akong tinatalikuran, Alhanis Clementine Mendez!"

She blew a deep sigh and wiped her tears before facing her father again. Nanginginig sa inis ang buong katawan niya. Maybe she can take it when she thinks of herself as an illegitimate child. She lived years of her life knowing and not forgetting about that.

She can take it that her father dislikes her because she was a mistake. Even if it hurts like hell. Ang hindi niya kaya ay kapag si Shawn ang inayawan ng ama niya dahil anak ito sa labas.

No one comes close to knowing what Shawn has been through. Not even her who means the world to him. Kahit pa na naibahagi na nito sa kaniya ang parteng iyon ng buhay ni Shawn, alam niyang hindi niya kailanman buong-buong mararamdaman ang sakit na pinagdaanan nito.

Maybe she can relate but their stories were different. Just knowing Shawn had to witness his mother's suicide, her heart breaks into pieces for him.

Kaya hindi niya matatanggap ang kahit na anong salita na magmumula sa ama niya kung iyon lang din naman ang magiging basehan nito. She has always fought for the people she loves. Alhana, Mom, Mama and now, Shawn.

"What your saying is absurd, sir." Balik niya sa pagtawag ng sir sa ama niya. "Hindi niyo po kilala si Shawn para ayawan siya nang ganoon."

"At hindi mo ako kilala, Lani." His gaze was sharp. Kung nakakamatay ang tingin ay parang kutsilyong guguhit sa leeg niya ang mga mata nito. Kikitilan siya ng buhay. "Hindi mo alam ang kaya kong gawin."

Napakurap-kurap siya nang mapagtantong mukhang alam niya ang ibig sabihin nito. Is he going to use power to make her obey his command? What will he do? Ano ang posible nitong magagawa?

"I can make your boyfriend suffer, Clementine." An evil grin shows off his father's face. "I can even include his family's company. Huwag mo akong simulan."

"N-No..."

"Try me, Lani." He moved closer to her. "Before your graduation, I want him out of your life."

HINDI matanggal sa isip ni Alhanis ang usapan nila ng ama niya. Two weeks since that day but it was still in her head. Like a demon always sneaking into her body to corrupt her thoughts and mind.

Hindi siya pinapatahimik. Ni hindi siya pinapatulog nang maayos. And no matter what she does, she can never get it out of herself.

Alam niyang masyadong makapangyarihan ang ama niya para totohanin ang sinabi nito. She can't afford loosing Shawn but her conscience will never let her be at ease. Madaming madadamay. Madaming maaaring maisakripisyo.

She won't let that happen.

And just like that, she's back to convincing herself that she isn't worthy of anyone's sacrifices. It had been a long time since that day. Shawn makes her forget about it. But now? It's starting to show up again.

Bumangon na siya sa pagkakahiga dahil may lakad pa siya ngayong araw. She will meet Alhana and they will visit an important people today- their mommy and Alhana's twin sister.

Dumiretso siya sa banyo para maligo at maghanda. When she finished taking a bath, she immediately step into her walk-in closet. Alhanis smiled at herself when she saw one of Shawn's hoodies. Ipinahiram sa kaniya ng kasintahan niya at dahil nagustuhan niya ay hiningi na lang niya iyon.

Naisip niyang iyon ang isuot ngayong araw. Babagay naman sa shorts na napili niya ang hoodie. It was comfortable to wear and she feels safe at the same time. She closed her eyes when the smell of Shawn lingered upon her. Somehow, it made her feel like she is with him. She bit her lower lip when she realized that even a simple hoodie that Shawn owns would take away her sadness in an instant.
