Adelaide stood with her trunk in hand at the King's Cross train station with a confused look on her face. She was between platforms 9 and 10, addled by the absence of the platform she was supposed to get to; 9 ¾ . She saw a huge redhead family standing close to her, conversing pretty loudly.

"Alright then, off you go!" spoke the oldest female woman.

One of the brothers, as it seemed, pushed his trunk in front of him and started off towards the brick wall. Adelaide watched in shock as he ran through the wall with ease. After him went another, and three more, one girl and two boys. The oldest man and woman didn't go, instead standing and looking with pride at their children.

Adelaide went up confidently to the couple: "Excuse me, is this how you get on the Hogwarts Express? It's my first time."

The couple looked her up and down, wondering how come she was so old but didn't know how to get onto the train.

"Yes, it is, darling. Who are you? I have never seen you before.." said the woman who spoke before.

"I'm Adelaide."

The couple watched her, expecting her to say her last name.

"I don't know my last name so I'm just Adelaide." the girl uttered, almost as if reading their minds.

"Oh well you should probably get going, Adelaide, the train will take off any minute. Do you want us to come with you?"

"No, thank you, I should be good now." She flashed them a grin and took off at the wall, perfectly confident that she would be able to go through the bricks just like the group of kids before her.

She was, in fact, able to get through the wall. She came to a standstill for a couple of seconds, eyeing everything that was going on around her. There were many kids on the station, all carrying some sort of luggage, most also carrying animals of different sorts. The most popular, it seemed, was an owl. Adel hurried to the train, as she noticed most kids already got on board. Walking swiftly past the cabins, Adelaide searched for a place to sit, stopping at the cabin where the children of the redhead couple were sitting.

"Excuse me, is this seat taken?" Adelaide asked politely.

The group of kids looked up at her curiously, never having seen her before, they wondered who she was and what she was doing here.

"Nope, it's not, have a seat, I bet the other cabins are full," answered the redhead girl eagerly.

Adelaide took a seat next to the boy with a lighting bolt scar on his forehead.

"So, uh, what's your name?" The dark haired boy broke the awkward silence which lasted for a couple minutes and was setting in heavily.

"I'm Adelaide. Who are you? And why do you have such a peculiar scar on your forehead?" Adelaide asked inquisitively.

The group looked shocked at Adel's ignorance of the boy's name, as it was apparently common knowledge.

"Uhm.. I'm Harry, Harry Potter.. So.. you're new? You seriously don't know who I am..?"

"I think I've heard your name before.. Dumbledore said something about some dark lord and some boy named Harry.. It seems to have slipped from my mind. I just found out this summer that I'm a witch, I still don't really have an idea what that means.."

The group was appalled. The first one to recover was a brown-haired girl, who started: "We can tell you something about Hogwarts then.. I'm Hermione Granger, this is Ron Weasley," she pointed at the redhead boy sitting next to her, "this is Fred and George Weasley, they're twins so don't bother messing them up for now," she gestured to the two older boys sitting across from them, "and this is Ginny Weasley."

The kids started avidly explaining the wizarding world to a very exhausted Adel, who tried to focus on what they were saying and keep all the information in her head. Houses. Slytherins-mean. "We're all Gryffindors". Hufflepuff. Ravenclaw. Defence against the Dark Arts, Divination, History of Magic, Potions, Transfiguration, Astronomy. Commons Rooms. Wands. Expelliarmus, Alohomora, Accio, Lumos, Unforgivable Curses.

"Wait a sec- what are the unforgivable curses?" Adelaide asked. Intrigued. Adel was intrigued.

Hermione looked at the boys and Ginny, waiting for them to answer, when she saw that they forgot she uttered tiredly: "Cruciatus Curse, Crucio- pain, The killing curse- Avada Kedavra, Imperius Curse, Imperio for controlling actions of the victim. But I'm sure everyone here knows that right?" Hermione looked around at the nodding heads.

Adelaide was tired. Her head hurt- the girl was too passionate. She wanted to chill in peace and she felt out of touch. She didn't fit in with this intense group, which made her feel as if she began in the wrong place. Her personality was more cold, calm, collected and calculating. She wasn't so fierce. She was grateful, however, to the witch who was very helpful, although, in her opinion, she was way too friendly.

She wanted to befriend this group, however. She couldn't afford to be on bad terms with people, and especially not groups of people. Her goal was to be the best- and she would be. No people could stop her, she just had to make sure that the witches and wizards in this place wouldn't add to her problems. Besides, being friends with many people, she thought, was a benefit which she could use to her advantage at some point.

Hermione continued explaining the many details and specifics of the wizarding world to Adele, who was half sleeping thanks to the girl's soft, quiet whisper...
