Corbyn's POV

When we got to the house, I left Madison to talk with Chloe and Jasmine and led the others into the garage. When we were all seated, Daniel wanted an explanation on why I'd interrupted his date. "I was talking to Madison, about a lot of things but she was telling me about a brother she used to have and how he died," I explained.

"And?" Jonah asked. "What I mean is, we all care about her and I'm sure we're all sorry for her loss but how does this change anything."

Zach had a smirk on his face and I glared at him. "Maybe you should tell them," I growled and he quickly looked away.

I turned towards the others. "Remember that day at the lake house?" I asked Jack.

He nodded. "You, me, and Zach. We were working on a plan. It was last year when we started working for Evans."

"Didn't it go as planned?" Zach said. "Kid got himself involved with something he didn't understand."

"We did what we had to," Daniel sighed. "What's the big deal?"

"Jacob Lakin," I said. "Maddie's older brother:"

Daniel nearly choked on his water. "You don't think..."

I shook my head and everyone seemed relieved. "No. But they're not stopping until they know the truth. Maddie's family doesn't believe it was a drive-by."

"Well that isn't horrible," Jack muttered. "Is it?"

"Who's the one other person who knows what happened that day?" I asked and they all thought for a moment.

"Your ex-girlfriend Alexa!" Zach gasped. "Doesn't she go to the same university as Maddie?"

"If you don't find a way to cover this up..." Jonah muttered.

"Believe me, Maddie has her own secrets," Zach told me and left the room with a grin. "Be careful around her."

The doorbell and I looked guiltily at the boys. Daniel glared at me. "You didn't actually bring her here."

"I made a deal she couldn't refuse," I told them and went to the door. "Hi."

Alexa smiled at me as she set her purse on the couch. "This place hasn't changed much."

"Daniel, get in here," I said, ignoring Alexa.

Daniel appeared and leaned against the counter. They glared at each other and I sighed. Those two didn't even get along when I was dating her. "So you got the money?"

"You really think I'd come if you didn't pay me in advance?" Alexa asked.

"You always were a golddigger," Daniel snarled and I pulled him back before he could hurt her.

Madison's POV

When I got back downstairs with Jasmine, I saw a girl standing in the kitchen talking to Corbyn and Daniel with a stack of money between them. She was wearing all black with some shiny leather boots. Corbyn noticed me and I saw what seemed like guilt in his eyes. He waved and I gave him a small nod before heading towards the door. "Where are you running off to baby girl?"

Was this girl mocking me? I turned around to see Corbyn glaring at her. "You don't have to leave my love," he told me.

The girl smirked at me. "So you two are a thing?"

I nodded slowly, not really wanting to speak to her. Something about her scared me. "So, you must've forgiven Corbyn for what he did."

I looked up at Corbyn and he looked like he was about to kill her. "Shut up Alexa."

So that was her name. "Come on Corbyn, surely you remember that night at the lakehouse," she said and touched his cheek.

He slapped her hand away. "Get the hell out of this house. The deal's done."

"When will you ever realize that the truth will fix this?" Alexa asked as she got her purse.

Corbyn was shaking at this point. "The truth? The last person who should talk about dishonesty is you. I should've known you'd never change."

He turned to Daniel who immediately grabbed her and led her out the door. I turned to Corbyn. "Tell me what? Who the hell was she?" I asked.

"My ex," he mumbled. "She cheated on me and has always been mad that I found out."

I was quiet. I didn't really know how to respond to this. Based on the argument that had happened previously, he clearly didn't have feelings for her. Why did everything feel so off with them? Corbyn pulled me against his chest and I felt myself relax slightly. "I'm yours. I promise," he whispered.
