Bridget's POV
Perfect! I thought as I checked the water temperature; it was warmer than usual. Today was the day me and Libby would just swim all day, with no worries. We would play with dolphins, make sand statues, and we might even get a pet! Of course, we'd need to be careful of...well, you know who. Mr. Farm, Libby's dad, is a mermaid catcher. Ugh. He doesn't know that he's only getting into trouble. Big trouble.
"Bridget?" Libby's cheerful voice echoed through the cave.
"Yes?" I asked.
"What's your full name?"
"It's, um, Bridget Rikki Syreni."
"Oh. My middle name is Amanda and my last name is well, you know, Farm.
"Let's go now, ok?" Libby said.
"Sure!" I smiled, jumping into the water.Libby's POV
We swam for a while, making crystal statues and pearl necklaces, when Bridget suddenly stopped and cooed.
"Hi there, little fella! Want to go home with us?"
I saw a small dolphin next to Bridget, looking hungry.
"Cm'n," I said. "Bring the cute little fish."
"I'll name him Willy. Is that alright, Libby?" She asked, her eyes begging.
"Sure," I agreed, starting to swim back.
"What happened last night, by they way?" I said.Bridget's POV
Uh-oh.
"I um went on shore to get more food," I said, trying to sound normal.
"You aren't very good at lying, you know," Libby said.
Darn.
"Fine. I'll tell you the truth," I said, just as we got home.
"I'm only one third mermaid," I nervously stated, waiting for her to be mad and ask questions.
"That makes sense. I guess your "vitamin drink" is um blood-right?"
"You aren't mad or anything?" I asked, surprised.
"Nope, it isn't much weirder than mermaids. Anyway, I'm tired, so goodnight," Libby told me, going to her sleeping bag. I, meanwhile, made a simple wire door out of a lobster trap so Willy would stay in the little pool. Then I let blackness surround me as I lied down.
