Libby's POV

Briiiiiiiing!!!

Wheeling out of school I whooped in joy. I was going swimming, no matter what mom said. It's one of the reasons why I actually brought a towel. Then again, I took off, but this time I was faster, gliding past stores and restaurants, trying not to hit anyone.

Finally, I got to the pool.
I didn't know why I went in, but once I did I noticed I couldn't swim. I mentally face-palmed myself. Then, I blacked out.

I woke up underwater. "Ahhhhhhh!" I screamed, looking down.
"Is this some trick? I said, still underwater.
"Oh gosh!
I'm a-a mermaid!

"Yes, you are. Now why don't you turn around and follow me so no one sees us?"

"Huh?" I say turning around, seeing another mermaid.
"I'll explain later, but follow me first, unless you want to be a scientist's test subject."
"OK," I said, following the other 'fish', confused about what's happening.

She had long, blonde hair and a ocean blue tail with spots of red, while I just had shoulder length brown hair that I sometimes dyed blonde and a orange tail. I noticed she doesn't have painted nails, whereas I did. Surprisingly the nail polish didn't wash off.

Coming back to reality, I saw her swimming straight through a wall. I sped up and did the same, though my tail stung badly.

"Excuse me? Um, my leg's broken." I said.

"You have a broken leg? She said, turning around.

"Yeah"

"I can help heal it," she replied, swimming into a cave with lights and two beds.

"Wow, this is nice. Can I have some help drying off?" I asked.

"And getting up..."

"Sure!" She chirped, lifting me up.

"Well, um my name is Elizabeth, but you can call me Libby," I nervously said.

"I'm Bridget," the girl replied, smiling.

"Well, I guess you're wondering if you have powers or something."

I nodded.

"Well, you have to find out what you have, so I'll show you my power first," she said.

Then, Bridget boiled the water in a cup in front of me.
While I was watching her, I felt my leg twitch and stop stinging. Hmf. I wonder how she did that.

"There is boiling water, freezing water, moving water, and a lot of other ones, but those three are common."

"Ok..." I tried to boil the water, doing the hand motions and thinking of fire, but nothing happened. Then I tried freezing, with a flat hand, and the water froze!

Clap clap clap.

"Good job! Now you should get some rest."

"But my pa-" I started to say.

"Don't worry, they'll be fine, if you don't want to go back I'll make them forget."

"You can do that?" I gasped.

"Only if you want me to, Libby."

"I-I'll think about it," I stutter, laying down and letting sleep consume me. The last thing I heard was "Goodnight, Libby."
