"Open it," the man commanded, turning to his worker in black. The daunting and formidable tone in the man's voice didn't go unnoticed by his circle of followers. The faithful group of workers was immediately alarmed because the last thing they want for today was a death sentence. Getting fired was mercy.
The appointed worker slowly opened the briefcase they just found with shaky hands, careful not to do even the slightest action wrong as they weren't sure of what they might find inside. The crowd might not be surprised even though it's a nuclear bomb. Neither if it's an ancient valuable. But what all of them didn't expect to find was what their leader have been searching for, shedding his blood, sweat and tears, for the last ten years.
The puny worker felt someone grab him by the collar and push him away from the briefcase. He fell down hard but quickly got up not to utter a word as it was his boss himself who pushed him.
Their boss, on the other hand, wore an inconceivable expression. The scary middle-aged man's eyes were shining with a greedy glint. He licked his lips and hesitated a bit before slowly reaching for the object inside. Several gasps were heard from the crowd gathered around.
"Careful sir," his assistant said with a worried voice.
"Don't you tell me about being careful" the boss snapped.
If not for him examining the object, the assistant's right eye would be bleeding now. Their boss showed no mercy even for a pitiful cockroach. The assistant gulped and stepped back, letting his boss enjoy the moment. The boss slowly brought the object to his eye level and examined it with great curiosity. Meanwhile, his small crowd of workers just watched him, unsure of what to do. After three minutes of dead silence, the assistant spoke up again.
"Is this it sir?" he asked.
"Yes," said the boss, not breaking eye contact with the object.
"Sir are you sure of it?" asked the assistant. He was being very careful with his choice of words. The boss sure took his sweet time when placing the object back inside the briefcase and closing it. Then he turned to face his annoying assistant.
"Are you questioning my certainties?"
"No sir, never... I w-would never d-do that" he panicked when seeing the leader's hand slip into his pockets. Unlike the assistant who was sweating in fear in front of him, the boss contained a relaxed posture.
"How long have you been in this position?"
"3 w-weeks sir,"
"And yet the only thing you're good at is disrespecting and irritating me."
"Sir plea-"
Just as his assistant was about to beg for forgiveness there was a loud bang. He cried out in pain and dropped to his knees holding his bleeding leg. The boss casually took the briefcase and scanned his remaining group of workers.
"You," he said randomly pointing at a tanned guy nearest to him. "I appoint you as my new assistant. Let's see how long you will last" he smirked and walked toward his black limo.
The new assistant followed him while the old one continued to cry out in pain. Soon, the crowd dissolved, leaving the unfortunate bleeding man behind.
