It was a trap

"GET UP EVE! THEY ARE PUTTING UP OUR RANKS TODAY!" I woke up at Mar shouting in my ear. She's worse than my alarm clock.

"What? Where? Who?"

"Come on sleepyhead." she practically dragged me along the corridor. I'll leave out the fact that I'm still in my pajamas with big red heart patterns.

"I think I'm not ready to face this yet." I said in a small voice when we neared the scoreboard. Just as our instructor moved away for us to check, several heads snapped in my direction. Curiously Mar pushed ourselves all the way to the front. My jaw fell to the floor.

I'm 52 from the top?!! Did I just rank all the way from 158 to 52 in less than two months?! If miracles can happens are unicorns real? If tomato is a fruit, is ketchup a smoothie?

"You aren't cut out!" Mar screamed when the crowd evaporated. Earlier I saw several people who got cut out run crying because they will be sent away today. I was too shocked about my result to comfort them. Just as I was about to speak, Jett came running to me. Then he literally picked me up and circled around shouting "My girl made it!" which made Marlene and I laugh along with him. The way he said 'my girl' made my heart flutter.

"Hello but I am here too," said Marlene, probably highlighting that she also leveled up two ranks. Now she's 17. Jet immediately let go of me and hugged her. For a moment she was caught off guard at his affection. Am I jealous? No I was absolutely happy. Besides they are just brother and sister. "We should celebrate." I clapped my hands in excitement.

"Celebrate what?" said a new voice. Alec, Please don't ruin the moment.

"See for yourself dude," Jett pointed at the scoreboard. Why am I surprised to find that Alec is first again?

"Wow the blonde made it?! I'm impressed." said Alec.

"No one asked you to be." I snapped.

"Is this how you react when I try to be nice?!"

"Woah," Jett interrupted. "You two please try to chill at least for today."

"Fine." I scoffed.

"Alec?" Marlene asked the boy.

"Whatever." he muttered under his breath.

"Why don't we go out for tonight?" suggested Mar. "Eve hasn't been out for night patrol before."

"Cool." agreed Jett.

"Wait you mean is he coming too?" I pointed a disgusted finger at Alec.

"For your information, I always went out with them before you came along." Alec rolled his eyes.

"I'm not coming if he's going." I said.

"Neither would I," Alec countered.

"Either both of you come of none of you do." Marlene stated glaring at us. "Don't act like kids." she rolled her eyes before leaving with Jett. Alec and I stood there in silence not liking each others presence.

"See you at 7pm blondee" he left with a sigh. Today started off pretty well but then this bastard had to butt in and ruin it. As always.

Fifteen minutes to 7 Marlene pushed me into a clothing boutique. Despite my complains on being late, Mar hurriedly swam past the racks. I desperately wanted to be there on time so that Alec wouldn't have another reason to mock me. But some friend of mine decided to do last minute shopping which resulted my level of patience to explode.

"We don't have time for this nonsense!" I have been repeating like a parrot but it's not Marlene who listened.

"Just try this on." She pushed me into a fit on room. "Quickly."
