Sam has her hand stuck out of the car window - music blaring out of her headphones, from her Walkman. "We're here" Mr Fraser states. Sams mother stops the car, causing Sam to take out her headphones.

"Finally" Mrs Fraser says - clearly exhausted from that long and boring drive. "Sam get your stuff." Sam gets out of the backseat, grabbing a box full of her tapes and other junk. Including a small mirror - probably shattered from these crappy Shadyside roads. Considering we've hit several potholes.

Walking up to her new house, Sam sees her new neighbour - a girl leaning over her front porches railing. Sam waves and the mysterious girl gives her a smile and a head nod in return.
The girl seems chill and looks pretty normal. Dark brown hair, a casual red flannel - yup, that's normal.
"Sammy c'mon what're you doing" Sams dad snaps her gaze away from the brunette. "We need to get settled in!" Mr Fraser yells from behind the cars trunk.

Once the Fraser family is finally settled in - Sam crashes down on her bed, in her new baby blue painted room. Sam was exhausted, and on top of that - she missed her old school. She missed cheerleading most of all, it was hard finding a good cheer team.

The next morning Sam is woken up by her mother banging on her door telling her to get her butt up and get ready for school. Sam was terrified. She's only been to one school in her whole life, and it doesn't help that this town is called 'Shady' Side and that it's apparently cursed by a dead woman's hand. But she sucks it up and goes to school, and of course she had to take the bus because her moms a very busy lawyer and her father is a morgue technician.

Luckily, unlike Sam everybody has friends and are too occupied talking with them to notice her.

30 minutes later, there she is. Shadyside High. Before even entering the new unknown school - A curly haired blond boy bumps into Sam, causing her to flinch. "Oh sorry" the boy chuckles and runs off to meet up with this girl, pretty short - has her hair in a ponytail. Maybe that was his girlfriend, Sam wasn't entirely sure. Sam shakes it off, he did apologize after all.

Sam stares at her schedule -
History room 201
After walking for 2 confusing minutes she finds the room. "201" Sam says to herself, opening the door.
"You must be Samantha Fraser! Hi you can pick a seat, we'll be starting class shortly." A female teacher greets her as she walks into the empty classroom, passing her a history book.
Sam never really thought much of history, it wasn't the best or worst class - it was just...meh..

Not even 1 minute in - students start flooding the classroom. Sam settles in, placing her book bag on the floor next to her desk. She notices something on the desk written in pencil. 'Dyke Johnson' she reads in her head.
"That's my seat" Sam is startled by the voice at first, but she looks up and notices it's that girl from before - her neighbour.
"Sorry, I'm new I didn't know." Sam says panicking. "It's okay, you're Samantha right? The new student?" The girl replies.
"Oh, yeah how'd you know?" Sam gets up grabbing her bag, sitting in a seat next to the girl.

The brunette sits in her seat labeled 'Dyke Johnson' and looks at the new girl. "Nobody new really moves here, so it's cool when we get new students. The girl says in a raspy voice. "I'm Deena."
"I saw you on your porch yesterday, I'm your new neighbour." Sam offers Deena a smile, in which the girl returns.

The morning bell rings

"Alright class, today we have a new student in the back - Samantha, be sure to say hello to her." The class turns to look at Sam, her cheeks turning red..god that's embarrassing. "Turn to page 166 in your books everyone."

Deena flips the pages in her book when she notices the scribbles on her desk 'Dyke Johnson' she quickly erases it and lets out a sigh. Everyone always picked on Deena a little because of her sexuality, just not to her face though, which she appreciated. She doesn't like drawing attention to herself.

Sam can't help but stare at the girl. She has a vibe she gives off that draws Sam towards her. Maybe it's because she's her neighbour?
Sam thinks - or maybe it's because her eyes are so.. nice and she looks great in that burgundy and grey jacket. That style suited her. She really wanted to be friends with Deena, but it was probably too early to make friends - Sams thoughts were cut off by Deena. "Do you need help?" Sam didn't even notice she was staring at Deena. "Uhh no I just like your pants." Is that really the best Sam could come up with?
"Oh, thanks" Deena looked back at her book. Sam felt so stupid.

A few classes passed by and then it was lunch.

"Simon, Kate, look it's that new girl." Deena says - talking to her friends at the lunch table.
"Oh yeah.. I bumped into her this morning, I didn't know she was Sam - wait.. I thought Sam was a dude?" Simon exclaims.
"No moron, her full name is Samantha." Kate butts in.
"Hey Sam!" Simon yells across the cafeteria, patting the seat next to him.
"What're you doing?!" Deena yells in a whisper.
"Everyone needs friends Johnson" Simon replies. Simon was always goofy like that - he always liked talking to new people, especially girls.

Sam hesitantly walks over - she mainly walks over there because of Deena. She thought she was a pretty girl, maybe the blonde boy was Deenas boyfriend? She still wasn't sure.

"Hello! I'm Simon, this is Kate, and this right here is the legendary Deena Johnson."
Sam let's out a stiff giggle.
"Hi, I'm Sam. I've met Deena in history."
"Are you guys in love yet?" Simon asks with a playful smile.
"Don't mind him he's a moron" Kate groans. "Are you trying out for cheerleading?"
"Yeah. Uh when are tryouts..?" Sam asks Kate, trying not to sound too stupid.
"You can tryout after school" Kate smiles and Sam gives her a nod. After a short awkward silence Sam asks Deena  - "So how long have you guys been dating?" Simon let's out a loud laugh, while Deena just lets out a small chuckle.
"Me and Simon? We're just friends. He's not exactly my type." Deena explains.
"She's a lesbo" Simon says without thinking - he never thinks before he speaks.
"Simon!" Kate snaps at the blond boy.
"It's okay" Deena reassures Kate. "If that freaks you out you should just leave." Deena gives Sam a cold stare.
"No! That doesn't bother me at all." Sam says fidgeting with her fork.

The lunch bell rings

Two more long hours... Sam looks at her schedule.
Math room 203
Math - of course on her first day she had to have math. Why is math even useful? Sam sucks at math. Sam let's out a disappointed groan and heads to room 203.

Sam enters the room and spots Deena talking to the teacher - it seems kinda heated. "No you don't understand. I studied for this and shit I should get an A." Is all Sam could hear before walking to a seat in the back.
Sam always liked sitting in the back, she feels safer. Less people staring at her.

Sam gets a pencil and looks up to see Deena situating herself next to Sam. "Hi Sam."
"Hey." Sam says trying to sound as nice as possible. "I thought you were mad at me from earlier."
"I'm sorry... I just get defensive with that stuff. I'm not mad Sam."

God, why does Sam like it so much when Deena says her name? It's strange, the last time she felt like this was in 7th grade, she would always blush when Hannah - her old friend, held her hand or pushed her on the swing. She never thought much of it until she got older. Sam only had one boyfriend, and she hated it. Whenever they would make out Sam would come up with an excuse to stop.

"I'm glad, Sam replies."

They spent that whole hour of math helping each other with their work - well Deena mostly helped Sam since she wasn't the best at it. But Sam also tried her best to help Deena. She bonded with Deena pretty easily. Talking about the Pixies, Radiohead, and the Cowboy Junkies. They had more in common than Deena expected.

It was a great day.
