the vast sky, which was painted with the shade of lavender and cerulean hue, reflecting like a sapphire gem with white clouds looking like cotton candy was so calming to watch. but, soon, the blueness of the sky started fading out as the sun started setting down.
as the sky was blanketed with the black veil of the night, he took my hand and pulled me to the shore near the restaurant, to walk along with the waves, which were sparklingly accompanying the stars up high in the sky.
as the night started falling, the atmosphere within us started tensing up but, it was the total opposite for him. both of our hearts were beating but the only difference was: his was beating for me and mine was beating for his reaction after knowing the truth.
"hayoon, i have something to say you-" he opened up his mouth to let out his feelings but he could do that, i crashed him with my statement.
"i even have something very important to tell you" i finally let out my words with heavy breathing.
"okay, let's sit down and talk! " he sat down on the shore as i placed myself beside him.
after inhaling a good amount of oxygen, i breathed out to struggle against the tension that was growing up in my body as i, finally, was determined to open up about the concealed truth.
"you have always been a good boyfriend to me. You are the best anyone could ask for. You flooded all your love on me and i'm overwhelmed now. i really respect your care and feelings towards me. i really appreciate every moment with you. Thank you for everything!" he let out a chuckle after believing my words. his chuckle narrated a lot of his sentiments. he was feeling happy and satisfied.
"But, i don't deserve you. " i finally spoke the truth that was lingering in me. he was a little taken back by my words as he looked at me with his widened eyes.
"hey! stop! now, you're frightening me. " he once again giggled, thinking i was playing around but little did he know about the truth.
"no! i'm speaking the truth. you should be with someone, who could love you stably. " i, once again, tried to protest as he needed someone more loyal and faithful.
"hey, there's nothing like deserving each other in love. we love each other, so-"
"no, i can't keep this from you anymore but i fell out of love with you. " i blurted out in one breath with my eyes closed.
as i got no comeback from the other side, i unfolded my eyes to see him stunned by my statements. he seemed to freeze on the spot as his eyes were wide open and his mouth gaped.
"tell me you don't want to leave. say i'm enough to make you stay. please just say it." his voice hesitated as he spoke with a breathy sound. after earning no reply from me, his eyes started getting weepy. "please speak up!"
"i'm sorry!" i apologised, not knowing what to do in such a hurtful situation.
"w-why?" once again, he stammered while questioning.
"i have fallen for someone else." i spoke up submissively with my head hung down in guilt and shame.
"what? you have been c-cheating on me?" he finally burst out in front of me as the beads of tears, shining because of the moonlight, started slipping. anger could be seen burning in the orbs of his melancholic eyes.
"no, i never cheated on you. i never wanted you to feel any kind of injustice because of me, in the first place. i put you on my priority and decided to tell you first rather than cheating. i could never do that! " some drops of tears started brimming down my eyes too as he looked miserable in that state only because of me.
"when did all this happen?"
"when you were away for your business trip for 2 months and, we gradually lost our contact as we got busy. in the meantime, i confronted mr kim and all this happened. we both discussed our feelings and agreed to let you know first." i explained everything to him as i couldn't hide anything from him at that moment.
"if only... if only i wouldn't have accompanied my business trip, this all wouldn't have happened. " he said, kicking the sand off the shore as his tears were shining because of the moonlight.
"don't blame your trip. our relationship would have broke in either way. " i asserted the reality. i shattered our relationship with my own hands.
he sat on his knees and, covered his face as he started crying. seeing him in such an unfortunate state was also breaking my heart. both of our hearts were aching, just because of me.
"i'm sorry!" i apologised, once again, as that was the only thing i needed to do. he looked up at me as i was standing and smiled, which confused me.
"it's okay, hayoon! at least, you explained the truth and didn't deceive me. " he cackled sadly as he drew a tiny box from his pocket.
"i know i have no right to do this but i have prepared this with a lot of effort and love, so just let me do this for one last time, please. " he pleaded, i didn't know what he was speaking about but without thinking twice, i gave him a chance to do so.
he knelt on one of his knees, gaining support from it and positioned himself in a royal proposal way.
"hayoon, i don't know how to start this as i was never really good at the proposal but let me just start with our small memories. do you remember how i confessed to you? in the cafe, you would always come there because of your work stress and all, i even went there many times because of the same reason. and that's how we became friends and fell in love and, as we grew up together, you would always ask me to never abandon you, remember? you would never let me go away from you. we were the clingy kind of couples, haha! So, after all these memories and, also after completing 3 years together, i want to take our bond to a new phase, i want to give us a chance. will you marry me, hayoon?"
