"unexpected visit"

After spending some time at the Cullens' house, I headed home. I saw Charlie sitting down, on phone with someone. Soon enough I noticed that someone was Bella.
I gave him a small forced smile which he returned and walked upstairs to my room.
I took a quick shower and wore a comfy pajama set. I quickly got inside my bed, grabbed my AirPods to listen to some music.
Caroline by Måneskin was my current #1 song.
I closed my eyes, thinking of everything that happened today, everything I learned. Most of them were things I already knew but I shrugged it off.
As I was in deep thoughts, I suddenly felt someone's presence and I looked around to see Edward.
"The hell?!" I exclaimed with a shocked expression on my tired face.
"I- um I'm sorry. I just wanted to see you after telling you all of that because, you know, it was kind of too much." Edward said awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck as he looked down on the floor.
I couldn't help but laugh at his behavior.
"Okay, well, I'm fine. You can leave." I muttered out, busy rubbing my eyes.
"There's something we didn't talk about though..."
"Which is?"
"Us."
"What do you mean?" I asked as I grabbed my water bottle, drinking some water.
"I know you had feelings for me before we had to leave." Edward answered, still looking down at my carpet as if that was the most interesting thing ever.
I instantly spitted out the water with wide eyes and begun coughing the life out of myself. Edward quickly rushed to my bed, slowly hitting my back to help with the suffocating.
"Who told you that?"
"You." He smiled at me.
"What?" I was now confused.
"I can read your mind you know," Edward stated as a matter-of-factly.
I tried not to show my shock, I felt too dumb since I had completely forgotten the fact that he could read my mind. I had already made a mental note to think in another language when I was around him but that was after they returned.
"That was a long time ago. I'm over it. " I shrugged, acting as if the smile he was giving me didn't effect me at all.
"Well, too bad I still have those feelings." Edward smirked.
I could feel blood rush to my cheeks right after those words left his mouth. "Stop teasing." I rolled my eyes.
"I'm not teasing you Zara, we're mates." Edward said. His tone was now a serious one, his playful smirk gone.
"W-what?"
"Mates are like soulmates for vampires, you're my soulmate." He explained.
I didn't know what to say as I continued staring into his topaz eyes.
"Look, I know it's overwhelming, being thrown into vampire world and-"
"It's nothing new to me." I blurted out
"What?"
