Chapter 7 - Fear

Daniel maneuvered around the broken bridges as the flood start piling up to catch up. "Maria, take the wheel, the GPS should guide you!" He gets in the back of the Warthog, and takes over the turret. "They won't stop coming!" The flood dies, rebuilds, and repeat. "Step on it!" Daniel could practically smell the fear off of Maria, but he didn't have time to worry about stuff like that, instead, he had to face the imminent danger. The turret hummed as it spat out bullet after bullet. They eventually stopped chasing Daniel and Maria, but a greater range arose. "What the hell?!" A gravemind popped out of the ground. "Only one shall pass, one shall fall." Daniel hated the first thought he had, but he didn't want Maria to die. "Fine... Take me! I've had my life! Time for you to live yours." He remembered a terrible memory. "Time for you to go Six, Go ahead, leave this planet..." He then held out his arms. "Take me... I deserve it!" A tentacle rose from the ground, seemingly in slow motion while Maria cried at the wheel. Daniel got pushed under the ground, just like in his dream. "Very well, we'll see how long you survive." There was darkness, then light, but only for a second before Daniel fell.

On the Surface With Maria

"Why? Why?! Daniel?" She continued driving towards the Oni base as Daniel planned. She saw Marines stacked up against the door, seemingly to protect it. "Halt! What are you doing here?" She didn't have time for this. "I think you know! I didn't lose my friend for this crap!" They slowly proceeded toward her, menacingly. "Why don't we keep you company while you wait for your 'friend'?" Maria rolled her eyes. "No one would like this 'company' of yours! Just let me through the damn gate!" The marines still slid towards her. "Not a chance, we can't not have fun!"
