With two coffee cups in my hands, I maneuvered through the tiny living room to Daniel's desk. I gently set the cup intended for him down on the copper coaster, and returned his smile as he looked up at me with gratitude in his eyes.
   "Thank you, Daphne."
I gazed fondly down into his gentle gaze. "You're welcome. I still can not get over the fact that you drink it black, though. Didn't they have sugar in your office, at the very least?"
"Sure we did." He grinned, sipping his black coffee. "Most of us reserved it for the ladies on staff, though. It wasn't as easily obtained then as it is in your time."
"You mean, our time." I corrected softly, brushing at the hairs that fell over his forehead with my fingers.
"No, darling. This is your time. I'm just a very fortunate man who had the privilege of being portaled through the years and have had the chance to capture your heart."
He pushed back his chair and stood carefully, still getting used to his new leg. I couldn't help but smile as he took the coffee cup from my hand and set it on the desk. Then, his hands cautiously moved to my waist, and I wrapped my arms around his neck.
"You're awful sweet, Daniel." I murmured.
"I told you that I didn't need any added sugar." He joked, smiling at me.
I laughed. "That has nothing to do with it!"
He just hummed softly, lightly swaying us from side to side. He had never been much of a dancer, I knew. But ever since he had accompanied me to my sister's wedding and attempted to dance with me during the reception, I found him sliding his arms around me more often to sway us very slightly in a simple form of dance. It was a new side of him that I think surprised us both.    I had the feeling that both of us were still getting to know this modern day Daniel Sousa.
