Chapter 3: I’m Sorry, I Fell in Love

(POV: Charlotte)

Time Skip: 1 month later

I sit up in my hospital bed as Keys takes my pulse while talking to me about how his cat was acting so strangely last night.

Yeah, that sure is a weird thing for a doctor and a patient to talk about. But I don’t think I could classify Keys and I’s relationship as strictly “he’s my doctor, I’m his patient” anymore.

We have actually gotten to become close friends over the past month and it’s been very fun. Normally he has day only shifts and then goes home at night and comes in around 6 the next morning. He has it lucky. Some of the nurses here work two night shifts in a row.

I have really enjoyed his company this past month. I like when he comes and visits and sits to talk with me after examinations. We talk about everything, from politics, to our favorite flavors of ice creams. Heck we had a strawberry v. chocolate argument. I don’t think there was ever a winner. But I still question his strict love for strawberry ice cream. It’s chocolate all the way!

“Okay Charlotte, I better get heading home. I promised my roommate that I’d make dinner tonight since we’ve been having take-out all week,” Keys sighed.

“Well why can’t he make dinner?” I asked.

“Asking him to make dinner is like asking to eat cow crap. He can’t cook if his life depended on it,” he laughed. I laughed too.

“Okay then, just don’t burn the apartment down, and say hi to Mouse for me,” I smiled. Mouse is the name of his cat. I really want to meet him. He’s a munchkin tabby cat. If you didn’t know, munchkin’s are the weiner dogs of the cat family. They are so adorable.

“Alright. Sleep well,” Keys smiled to me and headed for the door. I waved him off and sighed, blushing.

Damnit, why have I been blushing around him so much lately? And why does he make my heart flutter so?

“Aww, someones got a crush,” Son poked his head in, surprising me.

I held back a yelp. “Jeez you scared me,” I tried hard not to shout and succeeded. “And I do not have a crush,” I muttered, folding my arms and turning away from him. And how did he know my inner thoughts?

“Honey,” The blonde cancer patient walked over to my bed and sat down, crossing his legs. “You blush whenever he says something remotely cute. Or whenever he has a hand on you. Even when he took your pulse just now you were blushing.”

“How did you? Have you been spying on us?!” I growled at him.

“A guy’s gotta find something to do. Watching you two is very entertaining. Especially seeing you falling in love with the guy,” Son smiled.

“Can’t you mind your own business?” I muttered.

“Oh but you are clearly clueless honey. You like him. You blush when you're around him, you smile and laugh a lot when you are with him. You get nervous around him occasionally. And you guys are like, always together when he is here. It’s young love!” He beamed.

“You have been watching me that much!” I exclaimed, somewhat angry. Not too much though, what bothered me was thinking about what he said. Son does have a point, Keys and I are together quite a bit when he is on his shift.
