Chapter 4: I Hate the Color Green

(POV: Charlotte)

When you’re in the hospital, busy days are the most dangerous. With nurses running around back and forth between rooms, carts being pushed around. Everything seems like organized chaos on a busy hospital day.

But it’s still scary. It’s like crossing a 4 way intersection when it’s busy. You have to look all ways, and even then you are still not safe.

Walking down the halls on one of these days, is not a good idea. Which is what I’m doing right now, walking back from breakfast.

I’m about to turn the corner to my room when a nurse turns in, running with a cart.

Two hands come up from my side and reach out to me, grabbing me, and I clumsily fall into their embrace.

Looking up, I come face to face with one of those most beautiful men on this planet, well in my opinion, Dr. Keyon “Keys” Brad. “Careful,” he smiles.

I nod, just looking up at him.

“Hah, you don’t seen to be growling at them when they run down the halls and almost knock you down,” he laughs.

"Well for one it was an emergency or they would not have been running. And two, they didn't actually knock me down," I teased.

"Thanks to me," he smirked.

"Hmmph" I folded my arms and turned away from him. I had forgotten that we were in the hallway, until he took my hand and guided me out. Damnit now I'm blushing again.

We walked the long, but not treacherous path back to my room, talking and laughing along the way.

When Keys and I reached my room, he stopped suddenly, instead of walking in. His gaze focused in on the empty nurses station where only one person stood.

It was a woman with long blonde hair pulled up into low pigtails. She had blue eyes and wore a suit jacket and skirt and black glasses.

"No way, that's Miranda." Keys was dumbfounded. He definitely was not expecting to see her.

"Where do you know her from?" I asked.

"Med. School. What's she doing here?" he wondered.

"Well you can go ask her. Go see her."

"You sure?" he looked over to me, probably worried about me feeling lonely if he spends the day with her.

"Yeah sure. I have a project to finish anyway." I smiled.

"Alright if you're sure." He smiled, and called out to her. "Miranda!"

The blonde woman turned. Her eyes widened when she realized who he was. "Keyon?!" She bounded over, hugging him. My hand twitched.

"Hey," Keys smiled, hugging her back. "What are you doing here?"

"I have to pick up some organs for my patient at Stanford," Miranda explained. "Who's this?" She looked over to me, once she let go of him, and smiled.

"This is Charlotte, my patient," Keys explained. "Charlotte, this is Miranda, a good friend of mine from med school."

"Nice to meet you," Miranda stuck out her hand and I shook it.

"Nice to meet you too" I nodded, then turned to Keys. "I'll see you later."

"Okay. Bye. I'll come check on you later." They waved and walked off.
