Chapter Twenty Eight.
Xavia had been restless the whole night. After the kiss with Zealand, she couldn't stop thinking about it. Although it was a mistake and should've never happened, Xavi couldn't help but wish that his lips could've stayed connected to hers forever.
That wasn't the only thing on her mind, though. At some point during the night, Zealand woke up hyperventilating from what she assumed was a bad dream. He ended up telling her everything, from his dad being physically and verbally abusive to the events that led up to him and Harmony having to sneak in through her window. Xavia nearly lost it when she found out sweet little Harmony had shot their father.
She wondered if Eddie was okay, but according to Zealand he didn't know and he honestly didn't care. Everything happened so fast that all he was worried about was getting the hell out of there.
After an hour of talking in the complete darkness of the room, Zealand drifted off to sleep while Xavia stayed up, dwelling in her own thoughts. There was a two hour period of her attempting to go to sleep, but all she did was toss and turn. Before she knew it, it was six in the morning.
She could hear shuffling, which meant that her grandmother was up and starting to get ready for work. Unfortunately she'd be working up until Thanksgiving, but they would let all of the employees go home early that day to allow them to spend time with family.
Xavia eased out of bed, trying not to disturb Zealand even though he was a pretty deep sleeper. She tiptoed to her bedroom door and opened it, before slipping out.
Xavi braced herself as she walked to Rose's room. She wanted to talk to her about Zee and Harmony being there before Rose randomly saw them in the house and freaked out.
She could see her grandmother through the crack in her door, sitting at her vanity and taking the foam rollers out of her hair. Xavi raised her fist up, and lightly knocked to let her presence be known.
Rose turned around and told her to come in. "Morning sweet pea, why are you up so early?" She questioned, applying oil to her fingertips as she got ready to separate her curls.
"Good morning, and I didn't get much sleep last night. I've been up for a while now." Xavia told her, taking a seat in the recliner chair that Rose had in her room.
"How come?"
Xavi took a couple of seconds before she answered.
"Well for starters, Zealand and his little sister came over at two this morning."Rose paused, looking over at her granddaughter. "Say what now?"
"Look Nana, it was urgent so I snuck them in and let them spend the night. Truthfully, they might need to stay here for a few days."
"What happened?" Rose asked.
Xavia looked off to the side, trying to find the right words to say without raising any red flags. "Their father was...injured. He was..in a car wreck coming hone from work."
She was silent for a bit. Rose was mainly annoyed at the fact that Xavia had decided to sneak them in instead of letting her know the situation and having permission to allow them to come over, especially in the middle of the night.
"Why here? They don't have any family to stay with?" She exclaimed, putting her hair rollers back in the plastic bin they came out of.
"Not that I know of. I mean, they have an aunt but she's in New York." Xavi said.
Rose sighed. "Fine, Xavia. Let this be the first and last time something like this happens. I'm trying to be understanding to the fact that they have nowhere else to go and also because he's your friend, but still. I have to mentally prepare myself to have extra people staying in the house. I'm not used to this."
