The wind blows through their hair as he rides down the street. Kiara has her head laid on his back, holding him firmly so she doesn't fall off. JJ was always a reckless driver. She watched the big houses and luxurious yachts wisp away into small shacks and worn down boats.
The oldness of the cut was something she liked. It didn't feel too perfect or too put together that it wasn't a home. It felt normal. It felt real. She hated that they're treated like shit when there's so much beauty within. So much love and loyalty.
Something figure eight should take some notes of.
The bike came to a halt, stopping right in front of the lighthouse. It stood tall, looking bigger than the last time she'd seen it.
"Tada." He announced, happily.
JJ kicked out his kickstand, taking the keys out of the ignition. Kiara was the first to get off with him following.
"I didn't know you still came here." She spoke, staring at the lighthouse that towered over them.
"I didn't, this past summer I had a little more time on my hands than usual." He walked past her going up to the door.
"Hm, you think we should be here this time of night? If we caught by the cops-"
He turned to stop on the stairs, "Don't think about that, ight. There are way better things to think about than some stupid cops."
The blonde took out a nice sized blunt after his last word. It's rolled to perfection. It looked fresh and unscathed. Kiara glanced at it then continued her gaze at him. He gave her knowing eyes and a soft smile. Oh JJ.
She retrieved it from his hands, examining it. "You're right."
"I know I am, now come on."
He took her hand once they entered, shutting the door behind them. The two of them ran up the spiral staircase like mischievous children not wanting to get caught by their parents. Making lighthearted jokes about how slow the other was. Kiara couldn't hold in her laughter as it echoed throughout the place.
JJ reached the ladder, let go of her hand and climbed. He pushed the door open and placed his hands on the floor, pulling himself up. Turning around, he held out his hand and helped her inside. He guided her outside on the balcony, never letting go.
They went around settling on a spot they admired and leaned over the railing. JJ took out his lighter and handed it to her. She put the blunt in her mouth and grabbed it. The lighter flickered a few times before the flame finally came. Moving it slightly forward, she inhaled slowly giving him back what was his.
The stars shined shamelessly with their pitch black canvas behind them. The town's sweet noises of cars and waves was melodious as it filled their ears. The air was rich and salty but calming and delicious. Who knew obx could live in peace and harmony when hostility and hatred isn't seeping into their minds.
"I missed you being annoying and shit." She quipped, exhaling.
He scruffed, "I'm annoying?"
"Do you want me to answer that!"
There was silence.
"Thought so" she put it back to her mouth.
He chuckled, "Missed you too, Carrera."
The duo passed the blunt back and forth for a while. Just catching up on the lost time they spent over the summer. What good ol friends do right?
"So this blue ridge place, you're really gonna go?" He queried, looking over at her.
"I don't really have a choice." she retorted, exhaling.
JJ noticed her expression is glum seeing her eyes drift down to the trees. He bumped her shoulder with his, getting her attention.
"We'll get you out y'know."
A tiny smile unintentionally escaped her lips.
"Really?" She moved the blunt back to her mouth.
"Mhm, already got a solid plan in the making. See we're gonna find you a doppelgänger and with enough cash, we'll give her the information she needs so she can go into that hellhound of a boarding school. We'll board the plane, and once they see that you're there, a few hours later, badabing badaboom you can leave."
She nodded, exhaling once more. "Okay...but I can't come back. This place is small and they'll eventually find me. Where am I gonna go then?" She looked at him, handing him the cigar.
He took it, "You've always wanted to travel the world, right? We could make that a reality."
She watched him put the cigar in his mouth, sucking in his cheeks. JJ was always the one who knew what Kiara truly wanted. He would think of things she'd never really imagined. Climbing mountains, camping in deserted forests and surfing in the most vacantly random places. His imagination is her tranquility and she doesn't know what she's going to do without it.
JJ is a soul you wouldn't want to escape your lifetime.
He finally let go, puffing out a cloud of smoke. "But it's just a thought, doesn't really matter because nothin can keep a pogue down."
She chuckled, "You're damn right about that."
"P4L BABY, WOO-"
Kiara immediately attempted to cover his mouth.
"Shut up,"
"Wooo-"
"JJ-"
They both giggled hysterically being out in the clouds. She tried to take the blunt out of his hands but failed miserably being stuck between him and the railing. One of her hands rested on his shoulder as the other continued to reach for the cigar.
"I give up."
"Oh come on, it was just getting fun."
He moved a little closer, having her wrap her hand around his neck.
"It was but I'm cutting us off."
He nodded silently agreeing, "Yeah, probably the right thing huh?"
"Mhm"
JJ dropped the tiny pebble, and stepped on it putting out the flame. Kiara watched, unwrapping her arm. She moved to the side but still close, turning around to the view. He joined her.
"Thank you for tonight, probably one of your more chiller hangouts yet." she looked over at him.
"No problem, finally got successful with stealing you away."
She smiled before leaning her head on his shoulder, "So we're still going around the world together?"
He placed his arm around her neck, "Never left my mind."
JJ and Kiara's friendship is flirtatious most times and plantonic the others. It's all innocent and harmless. Neither would ever get into a relationship with the other anyway. But after tonight, JJ's infatuation for Kiara may have decided that fate for them both.
Holy shit.
