Time.
Such a simple yet complicated phrase.
People treat it as if it was just some simplistic task that's competent.
Even though it's so much more than that.
JJ has had time.
He has used that time.
Attempting to achieve something that was unachievable.
And look at him now.
Struggling to decide when it is the right time.
The time to admit his feelings to a girl he's known for ages. A girl he has loved since the peak of dawn. A girl who has no remote interest in him whatsoever.
So he thinks.
JJ's laying on the patio couch with his hands behind his head and his feet resting on the arm. Kiara has been staying with them for about three days now. Her parents didn't call nor did she want them to. Nothing could change her mind after that day. They have blatantly expressed their displeasure in who her friends are.
JJ has been a huge help with all of it. Some moments she'd cry. He'd be there as a shoulder to lean on. Others she's angry. He'll teach her how to manage it.
As the best friend he is.
"Hey" Kiara greeted, happily walking in.
He opened his eyes seeing her sit in the chair across from him. She's wearing one of his grey muscle t's with a pair of Sarah's denim shorts. With a short glance, she has on a black two piece underneath.
"Sup, need anything?"
"Yes, I was thinking we should go surfing."
"Wish I could but I'm tired." He shifted his position, turning away from her.
"C'mon, J" she begged.
"No can do, this blonde needs beauty rest."
She rolled her eyes standing up, "Fine,I'll ask JB. He's the better surfer anyway."
Kiara knew how to get under his skin. Everyone knows that JJ is the best surfer. Better than half the people on the island. Questioning his ability to ride a wave is something he hates. John B himself even knows his limits. Kiara knows that.
He turned his head, "Excuse me?"
She kept her grin at bay, "You heard me, I'll just ask JB."
She started to walk past him. As she suspected, he stood up.
"If this is just some way of getting me to surf with you, it's working."
"Not everything is about you. Just go back to sleep."
He followed her inside. One thing JJ can be is persistent. Kiara went into the kitchen to grab herself a drink. He set his hand on the fridge door stopping her from doing so. Her eyes drifted over to him, finally catching him in her trap.
"May I help you?" she asked, pretending to be oblivious.
"I'll surf, not because I want to but so I can show you who really is the best."
The small glimmer of determination in his eyes caused her to grin triumphantly . JJ was always just as competitive as Kiara was. She'd do something, he'll do it better. He'll challenge her in ways that she likes. In ways she can't comprehend but somehow understands. Kiara will never admit it but she loves that. She loves his competitiveness, his unpredictably loving personality, and just the way his mind works.
She always has. She knows that.
It's only a matter of time before he knows too.
If he doesn't say it first.
