"Bad Liar"
Sunlight streamed in through the thin drapes of the cabin. The early morning cast a warm glow across the bedroom, light-beams dancing over the hardwood floor, and woke Halle from her peaceful slumber. She yawned as her eyes opened to light, vision clearing as a smile settled onto her face. Instantly, she felt happy. She glanced over at the sleeping form next to her through half-lids, and her smile grew into a larger one.
Halle felt it in her bones, today was going to be a great day. Another great day, just like all the others. All her days had begun to blend into the most perfect summer. It was at last merging with the very things she was too fearful to want — to to say aloud that she wanted. The difference now was that Halle had Jason, and their fresh start was firmly within their grasp. Halle held onto that feeling.
The day they left Rosewood was warm and as the summer continued, the weather only spiked. It was the hottest summer they had seen a long time, and Halle wasn't there for most of it. She was in Cape May with Jason, enjoying the heat somewhere else. Halle had packed her bag in the middle of the night, far too excited to leave Rosewood, and took to Jason's car just as dawn broke. They drove the couple hours to the shore, roof down with a gentle breeze in her hair and her feet up on the dash. Halle kept looking over at Jason, checking he was real. Jason did the same. He would look over at her, smile at her with that boyish grin of his, and raise their joined hands to press a kiss to the back of hers. She had no idea eyes could hold such immense love; it was even visible through her brown-tinted shades.
Jason held her hand as much as possible that drive down, only letting go when he had to switch gears. He reached for it soon after, and Halle gladly gave it to him, loving the feeling of their fingers locked together. They were even connected when they finally reached the cabin, the sun beating down on them.
"So—" Halle took her sunglasses off to admire the rental. The yellow-painted cladding wrapped all around the house and was a stark contrast to the crisp white elevated porch and finishes. "This is the famous Cape May cabin," she commented. Halle turned to him, the engine now shut off. "Is it bad I always thought it was bigger?"
Jason rolled his eyes at her and said, "Get your ass out of the car."
"Yes, sir," she teased. Halle quickly leant over the console and pressed a kiss to his cheek, a noisy 'mwah' sound leaving her. As she went to exit, Halle was pulled back by her hand — fingers still interlinked with Jason — and was brought back for another kiss. This time, Jason captured her lips and soon the both of them were smiling into it.
They broke apart but the smiles stayed put. Halle and Jason exited the convertible, each grabbing their bags from off the back-seat. Halle could hear the ocean nearby, its waves crashing upon the shore. The salt to the warm summer breeze welcomed her, just as Jason's arm fell around her shoulders.
