Emily was missing.

Hanna had sent out an SOS early that morning, freaking out. She stirred awake at the sound of a car engine kicking up outside and realised Emily wasn't in bed. The blonde called Emily's phone to check on where she went, only to hear the phone vibrate from within the bed-sheets. It was an emergency to the group — one that required Hanna's bedroom to be turned upside down in the search of clues to why Emily would just vanish.

Spencer was on the phone to one of the girls of the swim team. "Yeah, we weren't sure. We just thought maybe she — Ugh, yeah, thanks." She ended the call with a huff. "She's not at swim practice," she said.

The blonde was pacing the room, bound to create tracks in her carpet soon. Hanna had gone over the same piece of carpet too many times to count. She snapped at Spencer, "No, I told you, she's not not allowed near the pool!"

"Guys, all of her clothes are here," Aria told them. She turned around, walking away from the wardrobe, and asked, "You think she did something crazy?"

"Like what?" Halle asked her, looking up from the tablet screen. She was sat at Hanna's vanity, combing through Emily's inbox, which she felt dreadful doing because it was Emily. She didn't mind poking through anyone else's business as long as it wasn't any of her friends'.

"Like jump in her car and burn rubber until she hits Texas," suggested Aria.

"And leave everything behind?" Spencer questioned, not convinced that was it. "She didn't take her phone."

"I wouldn't either if I were her," Halle remarked. "A had his— her— its hands around her neck and keeps reminding her."

"I mean, she hasn't slept in weeks," Hanna mentioned to them.

"Who has?" Aria shot, knowing all of them were in the same point when it came to sleeping — they didn't get much now.

Spencer had started to go through Emily's phone. She clicked on the messages and immediately found something. "Hanna, did you not see these?" she asked.

Hanna took the phone from her friend and her eyes widened. She forced the screen in Aria's face. "Is that you?"

"Yeah, of course it's me," Aria panicked, increasingly more alarmed. She snatched the phone, eyes peeled to the screen.

"Well, unless you're Aria's mom, just assume it's Spencer. You know, slutting it up," countered Spencer snarkily.

"Wait, when did she get that?" Aria asked, giving the phone back to Spencer.

"3:07 AM," Spencer stated. "And it came with a text. 'Cue Ella in and I'll let you out. A.'"

Aria took the phone back from her friend. "Give me this."
