Chapter 24 — Our Love Would Be Forever
Clara
The people walked past me, as I just looked around. There was something in the air that definitely didn’t feel right. Everything moved in some sort of slow motion. The ground was spinning slowly, but still fast enough for me to know we were moving.
With each step I took, I didn’t feel like I was moving at all, though everything around me did. Everything looked lightly transparent, as if it was fading away, but they were still clear enough for me to see them. I felt like if I was trapped in a cartoon.
I looked at the people walk, enjoying the tranquillity of the every day routine. Each one of them walking towards their particular destinations, with their own thoughts in line, each one of them minding their own business.
It was like if they couldn’t see that everything moved or felt different like it normally does.
…or am I going mad?
I thought spinning on my toes. To my surprise, all around me, people didn’t seem to notice the different dense atmosphere that was crushing us today.
I sighed; feeling a shiver run down my body and making me feel cold. I hugged myself in an attempt to warm my bare arms, feeling the goose bumps on my skin. Along with the goose bumps, I also felt this funny ticklish sensation caressing my arms. I looked down at my body, and found two red threads tied to my left pinkie.
I didn’t notice before, and I brought my hand close to my face to see cleared what was happening.
There were two red strings, one thicker than the other. Both of the strings, were pulled gently, without hurting me, in opposite directions.
That was when I noticed everyone had those red strings too. We were all trapped in this immense web of endless strings, both thick and thin, tangling and leading nowhere. I grabbed one of the strings tied on my pinkie, grabbed it between my index finger and my thumb from my right hand and started following it.
On my way, I didn’t bother to look where I was walking; I was busy trying to not lose my string in the thousands of other strings that came my way.
“Clara”
Suddenly, his voice was all I heard. It took me a few steps, no more than ten, to reach him. I looked up, and found Matt in front of me with a warm smile. I looked down at my finger again, and followed the string with my sight to find that the other end of my string was tied to his pinkie finger.
“There’s a Japanese legend about how people are connected with their soul mate by a red thread tied to their pinkie finger, however there’s another thread connected to someone else. The legend basically says that there’re two big loves. The one and greatest love of your life, and the other one is the person you can settle down with for the rest of your life”
Those had been Dom’s words had said to me years ago.
The thickest string had lead me to Matt. The thickest…could it mean he’s the greatest?
I looked down at my finger again, and held the thinner threat in my fingers.
So, this is the one that leads me to whoever it is that I’ll settle with…
I looked back at Matt and smiled warmly back at him.
“Sorry, I have to go” I told him and turned around following the other string now.
