Chapter 5 - Pressure.JANUARY 1461 - Yorkshire
A few days later and Edward was still walking around sulking and being angry. No matter how much Madelena tried to get him to talk to her, he refused to and sulked off around somewhere else with Warwick trailing closely behind him whilst staring daggers at her. Even the men in the council and nurses working in the tents had realised something was off when Madelena no longer sat in during meetings or walked around helping in the nursing tents. She barely got out of her tent after another few days, only Donatella walking in and out of the tent.
Not even Beatrice dared to go into the once very elegant tent, well at least for being in the middle of a civil war.
Every day since Edward had found Madelena in the woods had either been spent trying to talk to him when he arrived back from his daily activities, ignoring him by stitching, writing letters, reading or riding to the next campsite. The pressure had finally landed on Edward, the same pressure his father Richard had felt day in and day out ever since the rebellion had started.
In a corner far hidden far away from where most of the soldiers spent their time lurked Richard Neville, The Duke of Warwick alongside two of Edward's advisors.
"There is something wrong with that woman!" Warwick hissed as they looked at Edward getting out of his tent and walking over to another. "We need the complete dowry to pay for the army, yet we can't seem to get the rest."
"My lord, if I remember correctly we were to receive the rest once The King and she had an heir," One of the old advisors said, trying to calm Warwick from doing something irrational.
Warwick never truly had liked Madelena nor her ladies-in-waiting ever since they had stepped foot off the boat. Well, he didn't really like them ever since he had heard of how Richard had negotiated everything surrounding Madelena and Edward's marriage. He knew she came from an incredibly wealthy family, so he had originally expected a huge dowry that never came.
"Lord Warwick, I truly don't think we shou..." The same man started before being cut off.
"No, no we need to do something about it," Warwick huffed before starting to imagine what to do.
A few days later and Warwick had finally hatched his plan, he would tell Edward of the humongous dowry and present it in such a way that they needed the dowry to win the war. So that's what he did.
After the council meeting, Warwick grabbed onto Edward's arm to hold him back whilst everyone left the tent. The way Warwick had grabbed Edward's arm made him immensely confused, never had Warwick grabbed onto him so harshly and refused to let go.
Just as the last of the men walked out of the cold and beige tent Edward began to speak.
"What is god's name are you doing Uncle? Edward asked, still being held onto by an angry Warwick.
