Chapter IV - Finding a WayJANUARY 1461 - Yorkshire
It was just another cold January morning when Madelena decided to take a walk in the woods behind the Yorkist camp was stationed. The atmosphere had been incredibly stiff for the last few days. It all changed when Duke Richard and Edmund died, and since the lords had decided to make Edward king it had only gotten worse. Not only that but the people whom Madelena had enjoyed spending time with, especially in the medicine tent had all started to act all properly. Calling Madelena Queen, curtsying and bowing, and also not letting her help with more dangerous injuries.
Alongside Madelena walked her ladies Donatella and Beatrice. Donatella had been Madelena's lady ever since her grandfather had become the Pope a few years earlier whilst Beatrice had been appointed only a few weeks earlier before Madelena was shipped off to England to be married.
Out of nowhere, groans and whines could be heard to their side. After an initial shock and remembering the knives the ladies had underneath their clothes, like in their boots, down the fronts of their corsets and up their sleeves. Edward had made sure Madelena and her ladies knew how to use daggers and how to defend themselves. So with a dagger in each hand, the three ladies walked around a tree to look at where the sound was coming from.
After a little while, Madelena, Beatrice and Donatella found three heavily injured soldiers. One with a white rose on his armour and the other two with red ones. The three ladies stood behind the tree so they wouldn't be noticed.
"Donatella, Beatrice go back for food, ale and herbs and let us help these soldiers," Madelena whispered to her ladies as she lifted her skirt to her ankles and started stepping onward towards the men, leaving her baffled ladies behind her.
When the men hear her coming, they tense up and try their best to find something to arm themselves with. But when they see her long draping gown, they relax. Without any word, Madelena starts ripping clean fabric from her dress, wetting it with the small river beside it and cleaning the men's faces.
"My friends are gathering food, water and medicine for you all as we speak. If you could hold on for a little longer, we'll have you up and fighting in no time," She said as she cleaned up the last man's face and propped them all up against trees.
"Who are you, lady?" A soldier with a red rose and heavy Scottish accent asked as Madelena had cleaned his face properly.
"Madelena, Madelena Borgia," She said, as another soldier with a white rose had a shocked reaction on his face to see the Queen he was helping put on the English throne.
The air around them was quiet and still. Not even a leaf dared to move, until footsteps could be heard.
It was Edward and beside him. The Earl of Warrick and Lady Beatrice with angry looks on their faces.
