PART ONE
IRONThe first thing Tony Stark saw that morning was a large brown eye.
"Daddy, are you awake?" a sweet voice hissed in his ear.
"No," Tony groaned, rolling over. His daughter scrambled over to his other side.
"Wake up!" she yelled, shaking him as hard as her four year-old arms could manage.
The Avenger sighed and sat up, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. Morgan giggled and hopped off the bed, dashing out of the room before he could get angry. He slipped off the bed, careful not to disturb Pepper, who was still sleeping blissfully. She had become a very heavy sleeper ever since Morgan had been born.
Tony spotted a pair of legs sticking out from behind a potted plant in the hallway and he silently crept over, pretending to be looking for her.
"I wonder where she could be..." he mused. Morgan giggled.
"Aha!" he shouted, attacking her with tickles. She squealed.
"No Daddy! Stop!" she cried through her laughter. The giggles brought a smile to Tony's tired face.
"Well, since you decided to wake me up so early, how's about we go downstairs and start on some work?" he suggested, scooping her up in his arms. Morgan stuck out her tongue.
"You can't work today! It's a Saturday."
"Daddy works every day."
"Not before breakfast! Mommy said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day!"
Tony chuckled. "Well, your Mommy's a lot smarter than I am, isn't she?"
They hopped into the elevator and rode down to the kitchen. Tony looked out the glass window at the city sprawled out below him, the sunrise coloring the sky bright orange.
They chatted about Disney princesses for awhile. Harley soon stumbled into the kitchen with them, bleary-eyed and sleepy. Tony and Morgan tried various ways to wake him up until Pepper came in, already dressed for the day. She cooked them pancakes and eggs like a normal mom, and they all settled down at the table for a normal family breakfast.
Well, as normal as you could get when your dad was Tony Stark.
"Wow, this is nice," Tony remarked. "We don't get a lot of these."
"Yeah," Pepper said with a raised brow. "Glad you're finally getting some time off."
Tony mumbled in agreement and dug into his eggs.
"Can I go play outside?" Morgan asked. Pepper looked down her nose at her plate of half-finished pancakes.
"Don't you like the pancakes I made for you?"
"Eh..." Morgan shrugged. "They're okay. But I want to be excused so I can go outside and hold a bored-staff-businesses meeting with my dolls."
Pepper smiled. "Oh, fine. Get outta here, Miss President!"
Morgan happily marched outside, her bright yellow galoshes leaving prints on the otherwise spotless floor. Pepper chuckled and shook her head.
"So much for family breakfast! We're spending more money on new mop heads than anything," she joked. Tony mumbled in agreement with a mouthful of blueberry pancakes.
Harley hadn't taken one mouthful before his head slumped against the table and he started snoring. Pepper carefully peeled his hair out of the syrup.
"Hey, can I ask you something?" she asked as she scooted Harley's plate away and covered him with a blanket. Tony nodded slowly. "Have you ever thought about getting an intern?"
Tony almost choked on his orange juice. "What? Oh, heck no."
"Come on," Pepper chided. "You never even thought about it?"
"Are you kidding me? An inexperienced kid coming in and touching all my special stuff with their grubby little fingers? I don't think so. It's an accident waiting to happen."
Pepper shrugged. "You never know."
Tony snorted.
They cleaned up breakfast quickly. Harley woke up and made his way outside to play with Morgan. They were his foster parents, and had been ever since receiving the news his mom had dumped him into the system. He'd been with them for a few months now, but it felt like forever. They were hoping to adopt him soon.
Tony was about to head down to the workshop and see what he could do with the suits when his phone buzzed.
"'Sup," he groaned.
Tony had a boring conversation that was two minutes longer than he would've liked. He soon hung up the phone, looking very annoyed as he walked back into the kitchen.
"What's the matter?" Pepper asked, sloshing the mop across the floor. Even though they had many janitors, sometimes Pepper liked to clean up Morgan's messes herself.
"Police need me," he grumbled. "Another bad guy. Near Queens."
