[ MADDIE ]

"Okay Madz, just keep in mind that they may be a little weird," Hayes warns me and I nod my head skeptically.

The two of us were in the elevator going up to his hotel room. Nash was with Cameron in the parking lot parking his rental car meaning that I'd know absolutely no one when I walked into the room.

Once we reached the fifth floor and got out of the elevator, Hayes led me down the hall to his room where all the guys were apparently waiting for us. He pulls his room key from his pocket then swipes it through the lock thing.

Hayes tells me to stand back because they may possibly charge at the door and that statement honestly frightened me a bit.

"Guys..." Hayes begins as he slightly opens the door. He speaks very calmly and slow like he is talking to a room of junior kindergarteners, "No tackling her or anything weird like that please, alright?" Hayes warns his friends.

I hear a chorus of grumbling with some "alright"s and "yea, yea"s. I see Hayes let out a sigh of relief before pulling me in front of the door, into view.

"Okay everyone, this is my good friend Madison Ziegler," he introduces me. I awkwardly smile and wave at the room filled with very good looking teenage boys.

"You can call me Maddie, because no one really calls me Madison," I inform them and they nod their heads in agreement.

I send a small smile to the room of smiling faces because everyone looks very nice. "Do you all mind telling me your names? I've truthfully only ever heard of one of you," I admit looking around and spotting one familiar face.

"Which one of us do you know?" One of the boys asks. He has light blonde hair and I have no idea how else to explain his features so I'm going to leave it at that.

"Shawn," I confess feeling my face get a bit hot, silently hoping that it isn't noticeable.

I kind of had a teensy weensy crush on Shawn but I never really told anyone because that's extremely out of character for me. I'm not the type to have celebrity crushes or even regular crushes for that matter.

Hayes looks over at me looking sort of confused and hurt then just walks over to some of the guys leaving me standing there awkwardly.

Shawn motions for me to sit next him on one of the hotel beds which also contained about 5 other guys, but I hesitantly walk over to him then sit down. The rest of guys end up introducing themselves and before we know it Cameron and Nash return.

As I talk to Shawn some more, I realize that he's extremely nice and funny, also incredibly humble. He tells me about his music and asks me about my dancing and we click right from the start.

I look over at Hayes and see that he's sitting with Taylor, Matthew and a few of the others. He's been constantly eyeing me ever since I took a seat next to Shawn.

It's very weird and actually quite creepy but then again Hayes is quite weird.

Suddenly Shawn's phone buzzes on the bed and I notice that he has received a text... just take a guess who it's from..

"What did he say," I groan wondering what recent thought has just been made in the mind of Hayes Grier. Shawn starts laughing hard as he reads the message on his phone before showing it to me.

"Seems like lover boy's a little jealous," he chuckles subtly handing his phone over to me so Hayes won't see me reading it.

dudee ur actually the worst, how can I get Maddie to like me if you're fuckin cockblocking... - hayeez

"Oh god, does he like me or something?" I question not being able to stop the words bursting from my mouth. I thought he was joking his whole time with all his little hints but this text makes me think he might not have been kidding.

"Are you dumb?" Shawn laughs. I knew that it was implausible that this 15-year old boy could have any interest in me what so ever. It was actually a quite a stupid thought for me to have. "The kid is in love with you Maddie, how do you not see it?"

//

"Can someone please tell me why we're at the beach?" I ask the group of teenage boys around me.

As we were hanging out in the hotel someone randomly suggested we go to the beach and before I knew we arrived. It's really dumb because I don't even have my bathing suit with me.

Everyone just shrugs until Hayes finally speaks up.

"Because yolo, Madison. You only live once, do it right... and in my opinion, doing it right is arbitrarily having a beach day," he explains to me.

Boy is this kid interesting...

"Hayes, this isn't 2012. Please stop saying yolo," I plead earning a laugh and some high fives from the other guys around me.

"As much as I'd love to make you happy, Madison," Hayes begins walking closer to me, "you only live once, is the motto. So please take a chill pill & ease off the throttle," he adds and I recognize the lyrics from the lonely Island and Adam Levine's song YOLO but like I said before, this is no longer 2012 therefore no longer a relevant song.

Suddenly he picks me up and throws me over his back before I have the chance to protest.

I don't like where this is going...

"Put me down you irritable twat!" I scream as Hayes begins running in the direction of the ocean.

"Never," he yells back in response and when we reach the water I hear the chants of the other boys yelling 'toss her! toss her!'.

As I'm being launched through the air, I think about how I ended up in this predicament. A few days ago, I surely would not have pictured myself in this position.

I would've pictured myself at the hotel pool having to put up with the childish talks, and games of Marco Polo I'd be playing with my friends Nia, Kendall and Kalani.

I begin to laugh to myself as my skin makes contact with the ocean. I would take being in this scenario any day then where I would've been. Although what kind of mother let's there 11 year old go off with a bunch of teenage boys she doesn't even really know....

"You bloody wazzock!" I yell as I resurface. I look to see that Hayes is currently laughing his head off.

I jump on top of him trying to get him to fall into the water as well but it's quite hard considering my tiny-frame and his large one.

"Die you little arsemonger," I cry attempting to knock him down but still not making very much progress.

"What are these words?" I hear Shawn laugh from the shore.

"They're British you wanker," I yell to him before putting my focus back onto Hayes.

"You're not even British," Hayes chuckles while I'm still attempting to knock him down.

That is in fact the truth but what most people do not know, is that I spend most summers in England with my older cousin Ella. She has taught me a variety of British insults and they often make an appearance when I'm enraged.

"What's the point of stating the obvious, mingebag?" I snap before finally gathering the strength to knock the great Hayes Grier into the water. The faint cheers of the boys are heard before I go down with him.
