Chapter 8 - To Have and To Hold

The phrase 'to have and to hold from this day forward in sickness and in health' is a total lie. Do we really stand by the person we fake love and we fake care for when they're sick? I know we do when they're in health because there's nothing wrong, there's nothing stopping them from giving you the world on a silver platter plus more.

Marriage is about perceiving the other half, making decisions that you think is right because you think it'll be beneficial for the other person's well being. Most of the time the decisions you make hurt the other person more than you realize, but there's that little sliver of chance that the decisions you make will help the other person that your bonded to for the rest of eternity.

The night I went to Dartmouth was great, I stopped second guessing myself and slept with Matty. It was amazing and very familiar, it was great. The next day, the last day I was in Hanover, Matty and I went to the movies, walked around the Big Green laughing and talking. All day though, I kept coming up with excuses as to why I shouldn't marry Taylor.

Matty called it cold feet, and kept convincing me I should because it's the right choice for me to make. Not just for me but for him because he said that if I married Taylor it would help with the pain he feels about what happened. He says it would help show that I'm not hurting anymore.

We drove to Seabrook together because I also invited him to the wedding. I couldn't just invite three of the Mastersons and not the best one of all. We pulled into the venue's parking lot about an hour an a half later, I jumped out an ran to my dressing room. While Matty grabbed his suit and headed to the bathrooms.

When I walked into the room, Luca was getting her hair pinned up while she did her own make up. Vivian and my mother were on the phone probably fussing about my where abouts. "It's okay everyone I'm here!" I said sarcastically dropping my bag to the floor.

"My God Meredith! Where have you been?!" my mom said hanging up the phone and ushering me to sit down so she could do my hair.

"Delaware." I said looking between Luca and Vivian. Luca nodded her head in agreement to my story, while Vivian just shook her head but reluctantly agreed knowing what my mother would do if she knew where I really went.

"Well what would be in Delaware that you would want to see that would make you late to your own wedding." my mother scowled shaking her head.

"Mother its not considered late if you get here before you walk down the aisle." I said shooing her away so I could do it myself. I never really like anyone else touching my hair.

We spent the next hour getting ready, Luca and I talked quietly. She was happy to know that her brother came but she was worried about introducing him to Reed.

"Places everyone." my mother said leaving to find her seat. Vivian had left a few minutes earlier to find her seat with Handlin.

Daddy walked in smiling at me in his black tux.. "You look gorgeous my baby girl." he said giving me a hug and squeezing tight like a father who didn't want to let his little girl go.

"Thank you daddy."

"How was New York?" he asked nonchalantly throwing it into our conversation before I walked down the aisle and get hitched.

"How'd you know?" I asked not even trying to lie to him.

"I have a friend in the police department. He called when they had to bring you in about the car." he said laughing. I knew he wasn't mad but for a second there I thought he was really pissed.
